Things We Expect in Grand Theft Auto V

There are certain things that have become standard after four games in the Grand Theft Auto series. Many people have grown up playing these and by this time are die hard fans. Elements of the game are standard, things that we always look for and give us a smile when we see them. Other things would be missed if left out, though not enough to cause any amount or anger or disappointment in fans and other gamers. What do we expect in Grand Theft Auto 5 and what do they entail? Well, some of these are slight improvements on many of the old standards, things that would enhance overall gameplay experience is slight but noticeable ways making the game jump from great to perfect. Let’s take a look.

Grand Theft Auto V

Better Vehicles

One problem that has been a rampant plague in the past few titles in the Grand Theft Auto series is the handling and control of cars. If you aren’t a seasoned player of racing games of all shapes and sizes just driving down the road can be a task of great contemplation, let alone the nearly impossible feat of out-driving the cops. Pedestrians suffer a terrible plague of hit and run kills in Grand Theft Auto, mostly because simple mechanics such as turning corners at night right angle is nearly completely impossible. In Grand Theft Auto V we expect this gameplay mechanics issue to be fully addressed. Sure, we don’t want the game to be too easy, and yes we want it to be realistic, but if I can make a nice right hand turn at a traffic light in real life it gets incredibly frustrating when the in game equivalent is unnecessary difficult.

GTA V Vehicle

More Checkpoints

Checkpoints have always been a precious and highly valued thing in Grand Theft Auto. The common rule of thumb is that you’ll get a checkpoint at the end of a mission, not before. It is only in Grand Theft Auto IV’s DLC content that the mid-mission checkpoint is introduced. In a world where games can usually be saved just by entering a menu and hitting a few buttons at any time, this can be a difficult and annoying thing when real life rudely interrupts for things like dinner, work and school. When mid-mission and with no checkpoints in sight you are faced with a tough decision, just turn off the consol and call it quits or leave it running and hope that the game is still up when you get back and that nothing has caught fire. Mid-mission checkpoints are a must that were only recently introduced and should be considered standard practice in GTA 5.

The World

The World of Grand Theft Auto has always been a fantastic sight to behold. Rumors are that in GTA 5 we will be returning to the world of San Andreas, something that is supported by trailers that have already been released. While we loved Liberty City from GTA 4, we couldn’t help but miss the sprawling world of its predecessor. There was always a new location to discover, a few new people to interact with. Liberty City was more of a microcosm, one that was beautiful and tons of fun in its own right. However, we’d love to have the chance to explore the open world that was San Andreas once again.

The Missions – Big and Small

While missions are fun overall, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t room for some major improvements. Everyone loved the long mission of the bank heist from Vice City. We want more of these long missions where you really feel as if you were a part of something, not just going on another mission to kill someone or steal something. That being said, we also want our actions to have a greater influence on gameplay. Think along the lines of Deus Ex. Should this NPC be killed off because he’s in the way? Maybe we can just tie him up and leave him for someone to find later instead. It’s these kind of decisions that really make the most difference on gameplay. Does an NPC get killed off because of your actions? How are you going to continue without this key character? It is these changes to the world around us that we want to see the most.

The Characters

We love all the characters in GTA games, don’t me wrong. But maybe it’s time for a few updates. For example, what about a female main character? So far we haven’t been able to play as a woman, only being able to play as men. I think this has found it’s time. Also, what about character development. Since GTA already has many RPG elements why not take it one step further and really get into character development of not only your own character but other NPCs as well.

The Pedestrians

Pedestrians are like a plague. They are only there to give ample practice at the good, old fashioned hit and run. This is almost always on accident though, as driving mechanics aren’t as easy as they probably should be. Something that many people would love to see is being able to interact with pedestrians on a greater level. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Just some comments back and forth would be enough, so long as the pedestrians aren’t mute, oblivious sheep that only populate the area to make it look inhabited.

GTA V Pedestrians

Grand Theft Auto 5 is a game that’s already being talked about and looked forward to, even though the release date is still a long ways off.  The things discussed here are just a few of the things we would like to see included in this next installment of the series. They are things we expect to see, the next logical step up in game play experience from Grand Theft Auto 4.

What? The driving in this game is the best in any game or simulation ever made. That is the only reason I love this game so much. That is why I don't play Saints Row because the driving has no physical fun to it, it is basically just hold the accelerator in and turn without braking. I have played GTA IV almost every week since it came out and just drive without purpose because it is so fun to do, especially finding jumps and/or role-playing with your music while in slow-mo mode.

I use to love GTA.. But after playing Saints Row: The Third, I can honestly say that GTA IV sucked. I would like to see them combine elements of both. (even though saints row is basically a copycat)

No female protagonist! That's an absolutely terrible idea, GTA wouldn't be the same for a lot of reasons. It would come off as some politically correct gimmick. And none of this RPG nonsense. GTA does not need to be overly complicated.

The driving in the last GTA was great. I hope they don't make it like in LA noire where you can take a sharp turn on a dime at a very fast speed. 3 things are a must that real gamers enjoy. One: keep the driving as it is. Two: the funnest in my eyes is to show deterioration on the car, when you hit things. The last one is something I hope they add. I'd like to see a speedometer, when your driving, like in Mafia 2. And maybe a 4th thing(lol) to be able to modify the cars engine, paint, rims, etc. Like pulling up in a garage.

gta 4 was a load of RUBBISH!! gta-sa was easily the best game i've ever played and gta 4 was just boring, you had to enter cheats via the phone so if you were getting shot at they WOULD F-ING WORK! you cant fly any planes apart from 1, 1! helicopter. the city is dull to say the least and once you complete the game its boring, gta-sa had amazing multiplayer eventhough it wasn't online it was FUN. i so hope this is like san andreas was, it'll be a benchmark if it is

Did you let a five year old write this article? Other then a few fancy words this has not impressed me in the slightest. "If you aren’t a seasoned player of racing games of all shapes and sizes just driving down the road can be a task of great contemplation, let alone the nearly impossible feat of out-driving the cops." The driving in the game was absolutely perfect other than a few glitches here and there. The only thing i agree with in this article is the use of checkpoints. And no..... It is not time for a female protagonist. maybe an option but not mandatory.

i agree with everything you have said, except 'the characters'. in the trailer, when the cops are chasing the red convertible around the corner, there is way less roll in the car than in gta4. this should much improve the handling and cornering :D

"Grand Theft Auto series is the handling and control of cars" Uh... the handling is fine in GTA IV and should be left as is. "If you aren’t a seasoned player of racing games of all shapes and sizes just driving down the road can be a task of great contemplation" Are you for real? If a person is a complete noob at driving, then they should use the thing called a freaking brain and learn, or alternatively don't play at all. "nearly impossible feat of out-driving the cops" No it's not I actually find it easy and have fun at the same time, also it's easy to get away form them by using something called "tactics". "simple mechanics such as turning corners at night right angle is nearly completely impossible" No they are not, it's more than likely it's down to you being stupid. "In Grand Theft Auto V we expect this gameplay mechanics issue to be fully addressed" Game mechanics should be left as is, but the pedestrians could do with being more intelligent in certain areas though.

How about the camera when driving? So annoying its untrue. Maybe this instead?; When you push the analogue stick to steer left/right, there is a delayed reaction between that and the time it takes for the vehicle to steer (so's to simulate the steering of a steering wheel). Instaed of a completely fixed camera, how bout a semi-fixed camera that reacts to the direction that you steer by swinging to look into the corner, as you would with your head when driving for real, and then swings back once preasure is released from the stick? It would need these things to work i think?... Swings left/right no more than say 30-60 Degrees (adjustable). Reacts faster to the left analogue stick than the vehicle itself (so to look into the corner slightly before the vehicle turns into it). Only works when the left analogue stick is steered fully to the left/right (so to avoid movement when steering is only slight. Like when just swerving around cars on a straight road for example). And of course...an ON/OFF selection in the options menu. TBH though...even just a fixed camera would be better than the one there is at the moment.

Good point on the driving mechanics, they don't need to be as realistic as they are in GTA IV. Its a crime-sim not a racing-sim. To drive quick in IV you had to treat the roads like a race track, pick a driving line and pray no cars cross your path and that you don't have to be a quick turn. You should be able to drive fast and still nip around vehicles that stop right in the way and have a less sensitive handbrake to make quick turns. GTA SA had more suitable driving mechanics than IV.

I thought the driving in GTA 4 was superb! It definetly was not a chore. I love doing all the crazy maneuvers you can pull off with the mechanics in the game that you couldn't back in the previous era. I say if anything, they shouldn't change the driving AT ALL. If you can't drive in the game, you can't drive in real life. Simple as that.

I'm pretty sure all of you guys are kind of missing the whole point of this article. He's not really complaining about Grand Theft Auto 4, he's stating his oppinion about it. Just because YOU think the handling of the cars is easy, doesn't mean that it is easy to EVERYONE, so lay off him a little. And if you really want to get into details, technically, GTA 3 did take place in San Andreas, as well as Liberty City and Vice City, all 3 of those cities were part of the GTA 3 series. As far as his "typos" go, damn near every comment on this page has a half dozen typos in it.

Grand Theft Auto III takes place in Liberty City, a city on the East Coast of America, which is loosely based on New York City. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is set in Liberty City (the same city featured in Grand Theft Auto III). Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is set in fictional Vice City, which is based on Miami, Florida. San Andreas is based on sections of California and Nevada.

The writer of this article is not a fool as you think . Gta Iv driving was just like vehicles rotate at a fixed axis when turning, try NSF mw instead ,had a realistic turning.peds in gta Iv were dumb ie they don't care about the protogonist about his clothing .they don't seemed scared when he carries a gun.they player can't even interact with them ,sucks!!. You can call police when there is a crime ,but you can't tell a policeman about a crime going on a couple of blocks away.the game bully does a lot of features on interaction with peds.hope R* will include those features in their new game

Disagree about the vehicle mechanics. However, I do think something needs to be done about the camera's behavior when hitting corners. A first person control of the vehicles, such as camera that stays on the vehicle's rear when turning and "look left/look right" system, as opposed to having to maneuver through a corner in 3D; that would surely make driving in GTA a lot more fun. Although, I have to admit that driving motorcycles was easier in GTA III era.

Seriously? Was this a joke? "GTA 3 took play in San Andreas"? Hmm maybe you should pick up a copy of GTA 3 and find out for yourself. One thing I don't understand at all, is how people think that driving is hard in GTA IV. One button goes foward, one stops and goes backwards, and you steer left and right. What's hard about that? People find a reason to complain about anything. And yes, that's all this article is, is a giant complaint. GTA IV, in my personal opinion, is the best game ever made, as far as real world open gameplay goes. Take what Rockstar gives you, and STFU!

I would like for Grand Theft Auto 5 to include cheat like san andreas, because we all want to experience more fun once we have completed the game. I would like to see specifically (Change clothes cheat) to appear as any NPC in the game. It Is always fun running around pretending to be a cop or gang banger :P
