Nintendo Switch Could Be Compatible With Older Systems Controller In The Future

In a recent interview with Time, president Tatsumi Kimishima revealed that Nintendo Switch could be receiving an update in the future to make the console work with previous systems' controllers. At this moment, Switch is not backward compatible when it comes to older games and controllers, but it was stated the platform is powerful enough in case.

Nintendo Switch To Support Older Controller

"We can take games and bring them and make them playable on Switch. So they can be remade for Switch, yes. That said, Switch is not backward compatible with games designed for other systems, and is not currently compatible with controllers designed for other systems," Kimishima told the interviewer.

"Support for certain controllers may be considered for a future update. In some cases, games from past systems may be re-released for the Nintendo Switch system as either enhanced or original versions."

Of course, this doesn't mean Nintendo will make Wii controllers work with Switch anytime soon, or the Wii U Pro Controller just to name a few. There's a chance anyway that for some specific title the Japanese platform holder might be doing operations similar to the one that made the GameCube controller compatible with Wii U. Would you like that?
