NPD: Nintendo Switch Takes The Best Selling Console Crown In April 2017, Also Leads In Software Sales
Things are moving thick and fast at Nintendo and they seem to be hitting all the right note at the moment since the launch of Nintendo Switch. Research firm NPD today announced that Nintendo Switch was the best selling home console in the month of April 2017, beating PS4 and Xbox One both handsomely. According to the data revealed by NPD, Nintendo Switch sold over 280,000 units of Nintendo Switch in the month of April 2017. This is the second month in a row that Nintendo Switch managed to grab the top spot in terms of hardware sales in the United States.
In addition to this, NPD revealed that Nintendo was also leading in the software sales division in the month of April 2017. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was named as the best-selling game in the United States for the month of April 2017. It sold 550,000 units. Another Nintendo game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was named as the third best selling game for April 2017.
In short, a complete dominance of Nintendo. Third party developer are you guys keeping an eye on these sales figure of Nintendo Switch? You better do keep track of it, Ubisoft has already pledged their support for Nintendo Switch at their financial call. At the event, Ubisoft said:
"And on top of this, as we have said for quite some time now, we will be delivering some great games for the Switch. The platform's launch is going incredibly well and we believe the Switch has the potential to reach the wide audience. As you know, Ubisoft has been the leading third-party publisher on Nintendo's console over the past 10 years, and we intend to maintain that position. Again, our assumptions are reasonable and we can’t wait to tell you more."
