Reggie Fils-Aime: Mobile games with a price tag of $2 one of the biggest threat to industry
Reggie Fils-Aime, the President and Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo of America, said that mobile games with a price tag of $2 in App Store are one of the biggest threat to gaming industry as it forces consumers to believe that games on other platforms should also carries a similar price tag. The consumers doesn't take into account the difference in development cost and also the quality of games on other platform.
Speaking in the latest issue of GTTV Reggie said, "I actually think that one of the biggest risks today in our industry are these inexpensive games that are candidly disposable from a consumer standpoint. Angry Birds is a great piece of experience but that is one compared to thousands of other pieces of content that for one or two dollars I think actually create a mentality for the consumer that a piece of gaming content should only be two dollars.
I actually think some of those games are overpriced at one or two dollars but that’s a whole different story."
It will be interesting to see what price tag Nintendo put on 3DS version of Angry Birds which is slated to release later in the year, will it be under $2?
