Nintendo confirms Wii U will be more expensive than Wii

Nintendo has officially confirmed that their upcoming next-generation console Wii U will be priced substantially higher than the original Wii. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed this in a recent interview to "All Things Digital".

Wii UReggie said, "The market is going to continue to differentiate based on the types of experiences that consumers want. As an example, if I’m the head of a household of a family of four, and my disposable income is $50,000 to $60,000, I’m going to continue to look at the Wii because of the software, and it’s a great entertainment device. For consumers who want to have the latest gadgets and have a higher disposable income, that’s for the Wii U"

We haven’t announced pricing or availability or any other details, but given the current pricing of the Wii, it’s not going to be there.

We’ve been very clear, the market is going to decide how long these products will coexist side by side. Our goal is to launch the Wii U and drive it into the marketplace, but it will speak to a different consumer than the one that is buying the Wii today during the holidays."

Of course it will the processor completley sh*ts recent i7 processors and a larger l3 cache, and if it is 40nm gpu than we are looking at opengl 4.0 and above which to my understanding is better than dx11

at at launch the wii was $250 due to the fact that it had game cube compatibility. the price of wii was drop down to keep up with the 360 and ps3. in retrospect nintendo is dealing with a hardware that's on par or exceeds the 360 core processor so yes the price of the wiiu is going to cost more that $250 at launch. the price range could be between 300-400. 400 is pushing it but at least it wasn't 600 at launch like the ps3 when it first came out.

I really like the Wii and 3DS. I am also excited about the Wii U. However, I will wait a while before I get a Wii U, just because the pricing does not sound promissing to me. With that being said the pricing is not finalized but it is rumoured to be around $600 australian, which is roughly around $400 - $500 in American dollars, which is a too much for me right now, it might also be a bit of a hard sell to others.

OK What?! This was taken from an interview, and he is talking about the new price of the Wii of $150. So the Wii-U, hes saying, is going to be more than $150.
