cool, but this is not new news for about a year now or ever sense battlefield 3 came out if you went to the offical site of medal of honor they talked about the seconed game. "Ten years, that’s a long time to fight, and in that time the nature of the war itself has evolved as has its warfighters. In the last Medal of Honor, the setting and timeline we experienced were of the war from the first engagements back in 2002. Over the last decade as the US and its partner nations have waged the war, the technology has gotten better, and our fighters more experienced. On the other side, the threat has evolved and spread itself - and its message -around the world. We’ve heard the term “Global Terrorism” so much over the years that the “global” part seems almost lost. Most tend to think of global as anything outside their own borders or a generally localized area around the Middle East. But while that view may help you sleep at night, it is not an accurate reflection of the world in which we live. I had an opportunity to discuss some of the changes that have affected the landscape with a member of the Tier 1 consultant team involved with Danger Close/Medal of Honor. While we always hear of our troops on the ground in Afghanistan and Iraq how many other places are “operators” working in? Delving into specifics of when and where operators are is a subject we won’t trespass. Anyone can look into intel threads through a host of sites or literature and figure that [Special Operations Command] has guys there... prepping, working with locals, gathering intel, coordinating with national forces, and making a base for potential operations. The military, as we know it, is built upon a command structure that is hierarchical where acts by the parts are initiated and controlled centrally. The bad guys seem to be a loose connection of factions working towards similar goals but at oddly varied levels locally, regionally and even globally and based on ideology and/or moral value versus command. How do these differences impact intelligence agencies and ultimately operators in the field? The terrorist threat from fundamental religion works on a flat principle. Most folks assume that there is a hierarchy. There isn’t. There “was” a mouthpiece that represented the threat and he voiced his agenda to inspire others to follow his ideology. However, it wasn’t to join his ranks. But to follow his agenda and act autonomously. Independent cells are sometimes easier to track. But also harder to build packages on. Independence on their part allows for a lot of room to operate. And following that is dependent on various factors; geographic, allied or not, cultural, permissible environment or not, etc... There is a load on the intel community and the guys are working every day at building great working relationships with those folks to streamline actionable results. There is a feeling that over the last 10 years, hard decisive strikes have been few and far between and there has been more focus on working through the UN and political mandates. How does working with a global network of allies impact the mission? The UN is a big body. They have their place but it’s very bureaucratic. It can bog down the [overall capability] of what needs to be done. Conversely, working in conjunction with some foreign forces has been very rewarding. But we are all subject to our commands and political [agenda] and sometimes [the two] do not coincide. When opportunities can be “created” to streamline intel to action results are met. Disaster has struck more than enough when too many opinions and agendas are inline. After a decade in this war but much longer living with the kind of extremism we see virtually every day, how do you see the global landscape and your role in it? The world is in flux. Population growths, poverty, illiteracy, corruption, power seeking, the drug trade, sex trafficking, and fundamentalism are at play. And societies suffer. When that boils over - we go to work".
