First Halo 4 multiplayer details and GameInformer scan LEAKED

Finally, the first official multiplayer details of Halo 4 arrived. These details was reveled in a leak from the May 2012 issue of GameInformer.

Halo 4 Multiplayer detailsSo without much ado, here are all the Halo 4 multiplayer details from the GameInformer May issue. We also have the scans of the magazine. Check out all below.

Spartan Points

  • Spartan Points is the new currency system in Halo 4. They will buy things such as armor, armor abilities, Spartan Ops missions (see below), and some

Spartan Ops

  • This was probably my most favorite addition I saw. From how it was described, think for Spartan Ops like Spec Ops from Modern Warfare but with a storyline. They will span out over several months, encouraging players to return to the game. Game Informer said that Spartan Ops will be comparable in scope and size to the in single-player storyline.

Why Reds Fight Blues

  • I think most of us probably guessed this, but reds fight blues and blues fight reds for training purposes. They fight in something called the UNSC Infinity. The UNSC Infinity is a 3km long ship sent into deep space on a mission. It contains a virtual reality sector that creates the multiplayer experience.

Sprint

  • So not only is sprint in the game, but it is a standard armor ability. You do not need to pick it up, it will always be available. You do not need to buy it with your Spartan Points, you will always have it equipped no matter what. So essentially, you can have two armor abilities.

Forerunner Vision

  • Ever wanted to be super man? Now you can! See through walls with your x-ray vision! I can't say I hate this armor ability, I haven't used it yet. I'm hoping it comes with its weaknesses and it discourages camping. Sorry guys, but camping in Halo 4 will not be a legitimate tactic.

Returning Armor Abilities

  • The hologram, jetpack, and active camo will make a return in Halo 4. It didn't elaborate on the abilities, but you can probably assume they'll be about the same.

Elites Not Returning to Multiplayer

  • Not much detail was given as to why elites will not see multiplayer combat, it was stated in a picture caption. The caption reads, "Competitive multiplayer focues on the Spartan IVs. Elites will not be playable.

Grenades

  • Now the article itself did not talk about grenades, but I noticed in the picture the Spartan had 4 grenade options. I assume the plasma grenade will return as seen from an explosion in the picture and the frag grenade will most definitely return as seen by the Halo 4 first look video.

Firefight

  • Once again, no explanation why aside from a picture caption. The caption read, "Halo 4's campaign is still playable with four players online (in reference to Sparan Ops, ensuring players that Spartan Ops will not replace the campaign coop experience). 343 Industries has no plans to include a dedicated Firefight mode. I'm torn on this, I don't normally play firefight, but I feel like it is a standard necessary feature in the game after Halo 3: ODST introduced it.

Regicide

  • Regicide is a variation of free for all. I think it's similar to VIP. Regicide, as stated by the article, "sets the leading scorer as the king. Every opponent that the king kills raises his bounty; other players have to kill the king to claim the reward."

Distraction and Revenge Medals

  • Don't feel bad anymore for not killing a single person in the game, you can get a medal for being a distraction! Oh, you just got killed and now you're raging at that player? Calm down and get rewarded for hunting down the guy that just killed you!
  • Let me make it clear that I do not necessarily see these medals as bad. They just may reward people that don't actually deserve one.

No More Weapon Camping

  • One the skills that separated veteran players from inexperienced players was the ability to time power weapons' spawns. In Halo 4, this will be near impossible. Weapons drop down in drop pods at random locations around the map. Quoted from the article, "This gives the matches other focal points, and it also helps alleviate the advantage longtime players always used to have over newer recruits; the best weapons are not always going to be found at the same spawn locations." Unless there is a distinguishable skill gap between players, I most definitely do not like this idea.

No More Respawn Delay

  • Immediately after you die, by tapping the X button you are sent back into the match. Now let's contemplate why this might be bad. Let's say Halo spawns are... not so great. A skilled player out BRs/DMRs/whatevers a unskilled player. Now that unskilled player can immediately respawn and find you before your shields even regenerate! I understand 343 is trying to speed up the game, but they must understand the consequences of instant spawns.

Joining In-Progress Games

  • So to solve the quitting problem, 343 implemented the ability to join games that are in-progress. My question is are we going to have the ability to search for games starting up instead? It infuriates me to join a game at the last possible second, not even offering me the chance to play

R.I.P. Competitive Multiplayer I mean WTF??? Instant Spawns? They Guys should make Halo 4 and not Quake 7! Random Weapon Respawn, that means if i have a bad Day the Enemy Team has a Rocket, 2 Snipers and the Shotgun?! Now we at the End of Competitive Halo, the "Wallhackvision" is in the Game! That destroyed every Gameplay! It will not have the desired effect, if you have really Skill you should know where the Enemy is hiding. Jetpack and Armorlock destroyed that Gameplay in Reach, they´ll shouldnt destroy Halo 4 again. Halo Reach is still a Noobgame with no Ranks and Skill, and i don´t say that because im bad in Reach, i had a 7.0 Overall K/D. Reach was to easy and it looks like Halo 4 will be too. :( I played every Halo Game and if that News are going to be real, that´s the first Halo Title i dont buy! I can´t imagine how it feels if you Play MLG and in game progress new Players join! They created so awesome Games with Halo 2 and Halo 3! The Multiplayer and the Campaign was so great! And the Reason why? Because it was Hard! It feels like they want create a new Battlefield or Call of Duty where every Noob can make Kills. That isn´t the Point of the Game. You should be happy to make a Kill and fight for every single Point! Not getting Points for every thing you do! ... Walking downstairs... yeahh 1000 Points more, now im a MLG Pro!

I was hopeful that 343 would continue the halo series in the same fashion bungie did (brilliantly) but after reading this i cant believe how shitty this sounds. If 343 make multiplayer like this, it will be horrible. NO instant spawns, no random weapon drops, bring back firefight and fucking burn Spartan Ops and never mention it again. They have already done wonders with the graphics so hopefully they will see the light and fix this.

Im unsure of how the forerunner vision encourages camping, I'm assuming it would last like three seconds plus you have a radar, really removing it if you ask me.

Halo 3 was my first Halo experience, heck, my first fps experience. I got into the storyline so I bought ODST AND Halo 2 and Reach. Loved the campaign for each. Multiplayer-wise, I loved Halo 3 the most. I got a few games into Halo 2 before it was cut. I also played the original CE and anniversary. I've experienced the different multiplayer changes of Halo in a way that I know I can't compare to veterans. I don't consider myself a Halo veteran yet but I do consider myself a diehard Halo fan for it's campaign and multiplayer. From what I've read, assuming it's true, on the campaign side, I'm loving it. This includes the spartan ops(don't like the title though). On the multiplayer side of things, I'm hopeful they here the community on these issues and answer questions on halowaypoint in the halo bulletin or whenever possible. I personally hate the instant respawn option. I woudn't like it for any gametype. The join-in game would only be cool if it's an option and so you could join a friend in need. I personally love sprint as a standard feature. But I would have preferred them to return the Halo 3 Equipment to Reach's AA. Sad to see Bubble shield/Drop Shield go(as far as we know). But at least Armor Lock didn't return(ironic how i hated it in the beta but learned to love it in the final game. Still use sprint like 90% of the time though). Would have preferred the cR to calling them Spartan Points. The big thing here for me is having a custom loadout. I don't care about the balancing, it just feels to out of place for a halo game. I might end up liking some of the changes, but that won't be until I at least see live gameplay showing the custom loadout system in gameplay. Same goes for the weapon drop system. But 343 would have to explain all this in a video soon including the "modifications" I'm willing to accept some of these changes if they would just explain all this. I can't say that this is the end of halo. I remember people were scared when BUNGIE first announced the loadout system. I'm hopeful this will all work out, but this made me go from excited to worried. I haven't played the game so I can't be judgemental and say that I hate it. All I can do is wait. May Halo survive the Reclaimer Trilogy and 343's Reign. I remain hopeful...

I completely agree. On a positive note they added smaller maps which is more like halo 3 than reach. In all honesty do we really know that much? They didn't work on halo 4 for 3 years to only put this stuff int the game

You guys are dumb as shit, the br I back that should appeal to everyone who is a hardcore player. there is unlimited sprint in battlefield why can't there be in halo for god sake you are a super soldier, no game is good without change, aka cod they never changed anything besides new kill streaks and guns. I will say the spawning is gay. You all need to turn down the hate and realize that there is so much more to this game that hasn't been realesed yet

Lol! Unlimited sprinting in Halo 4?! Not tryna sound rude or anything, but that's a rediculous idea. I agree that change is needed in order to increase the life span of a game, but this is a BAD change. For instance, if 343 gave us the ability to run around limitlessly, then there's no doubt that players would be running around an entire match knowing the fact that most players tend to play impatiently.

just because if you kill someone and they have taken down all of your shield then they have a chance of making it back to you before your shields even regenerate.

Clearly Halo's prior success was all just a fluke. They said the same thing about Reach, and most competitive Halo players hate it.

You are all stupid. Clearly the armor abilities and random drop pods are features that can easily be turned off in a certain game type. Then all you "competitive" gamers can shut up. Personally, I like the list exceptfor the join game in progress one. 343 is making it their own and I have trust in them and you faggots know that you're still ganna be at the midnight release for this baby.

completely agree with you, every one is complaining on what i think are minor changes cause im sure there is alot more to be released, and you cant have the same game all over again cause then what the is the point of a new game?

I religiously played halo ce (with XBC), h2, and h3 online so I've seen the changes throughout the franchise. If you want halo 3 then go play it. Yes they are minor changes, changes that can be changed in the way the TU changed halo reach. Unless its too hard of a concept to wrap around your head that a simple mlg playlist can omit the weapon drops and abilities so you can have your competitive fun.
Brandon's picture
Brandon (not verified) posted on Sat, 2012-04-07 08:29
your an idiot... in h3 competitive kids could play team slayer... not in reach there's to much gay shit and the kids in team slayer are horrible its like target practice. if you played that whole time then youd realize that Gun on Gun gameplay is the best and that these changes take away from that and make it easier for new players to get into the game.

Teamwork (not verified) posted on Sat, 2012-04-07 08:26
I do play it, daily infact, and at the highest skill level in all playlists. Problem is we are starting to not find matches due to the declining population. It's been going 5 years strong with 30,000+ daily players. These are not minor changes, and MLG is starting to drop the Halo franchise (see the other comments). Just, facepalm.

"VETO DROPPODS!" the new "VETO BRS!"? I personally would not like to run customs all day, tyvm. The only gametype certain to be competitive with the way games are being shaped today is MLG. And despite Halo launching MLG into success, MLG is starting to drop the Halo franchise due to the lack of excitement (i.e. Reach). (For more info, youtube "Ninja's thoughts on MLG's situation", which is from a pro player's viewpoint) Don't call other people with conflicting opinions faggots, faggot.

That's called MLG, and they are starting to drop the franchise (see other comments). We want a playable game, not one we have to modify to suit skilled gamers for a single playlist.

Just because MLG is drooping the franchise doesn't mean they won't have something similar. Plus if we have what you call a "playable game" then it's an opinion, having options is the best choice to satisfy almost everyone

Now I feel really bad for complaining so much about halo reach. At least the original bungie team had all their chromosomes. Not that it matters since halo 4 will sell millions of copies to casual gamers but I won't be buying this game. Instant respawn and random weapon spawns? Absurdity.

to all the social kids that encourage these changes... if these are implemented dont come running to us when there is barely anyone on halo 4 and everyone switches back to halo 3. the only thing that kept halo reach alive was the TU that made it more like halo 3 before the TU reach was strugling to get 60000 people on and after they have 100000 consistently... stats show so if you care about the game let those who know what they're actually talking about aka the competitive community, have a say...
