  • PSN not online in Japan due to demands from Credit Card company

Sony has restored Playstation Network (although partially) throughout the world, but not in its home country in Japan. The company till now hasn't given any indication as to when the service will be back online.

Many reports claimed that PSN is not restored in Japan due to demands from Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and now thanks to Japanese news paper Asahi Shimbun daily, we came to know what those demands are from METI.

    PSN logo

Credit card companies in Japan and METI wants Sony to details all the new protection measures company has taken for credit card users in Japan.

The reason for this concern of credit card companies, if a credit card is used illegally in Japan card companies would generally have to compensate its users, whereas in United States, Sony has a deal with insurance company to compensate upto 1 million dollar as damage compensate. No such deal is there in Japan.

As per our knowledge Sony till now has not provided card companies in Japan with the requested information. Sony in its response says that the company cannot rule out the possibility that credit card data has been leaked, investigation is going on to know whether it has.

Seeing the response of Sony, we can say, GOD only knows when PSN will be restore in Japan.

During a live Q&A session this week, Svensson teased fans, “Maybe, we’ll see,” adding, “you’re going have to wait and see.”

Svensson further added that company almost shared all their big reveals during last month Captivate, so fans should ”keep expectations in line”.

“I don’t know that we’ll be shocking anyone with what we’re talking about at E3. Most of our major announcements were made at Captivate. There’ll be some light shed on things that we previously announced that we didn’t show much of at Captivate, updates for some things we did show at Captivate.”

“But keep your expectations in check and everyone will probably come out happy. That doesn’t mean that we won’t have more things to talk about in the not so distant future, just to set expectations.”

    • Completed modifications to improve network performance.
    • Fix an isolated freezing issue reported by some German players who should no longer experience that problem once the update has been installed.

    PC

    • The cause of sound dropping out on certain maps when playing networked games for a prolonged amount of time has been identified. This will no longer occur.
    • Graphical performance has been improved, especially when using Ambient Occlusion. Closely worked with both AMD and NVIDIA, folks should see performance and stability improvements in future driver revisions from both parties.
    • The server browser is tweaked in this update, as well; among other things, a new filter allows you to display only servers with a certain number of players on them, and full servers will no longer be filtered out completely.
    • There are some smaller fixes for minor issues including your character’s voice occasionally resetting when deleting another character, and a memory leak when alt-tabbing out of the game.
    • The dedicated server is set to get an update at the same time as the main game, which will result in improved CPU performance. Certain cvars are protected that previously allowed server admins to accidentally break objectives involving NPCs.
    • The full changelog will be released alongside the update.

    PS3

    • With PSN back online, multiplayer testing will resume. Changes in the upcoming Xbox 360 title update will be applied to the PS3 version quickly.
  • Naughty Dog commented on why company not using L.A Noire facial tech in Uncharted 3

Rockstar and Team Bondi's open world game L.A Noire features MotionScan technology which capture actor's facial expression and accurately renders the movements in the game. This new technology has received many positive response, but Naughty Dog has decided to still make use of hand-crafted facial animations for their upcoming game title Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.

    Uncharted 3 screenshot

On Playstation Blog, Sid Shuman, Senior Social Media Specialist for Playstation explained the reason behind Naughty Dog's decision to make use of hand-crafted facial animations.

SId Shuman said, "That’s an interesting point that we discussed with the team as well. In short, they prefer having the ability to create the facial animations by hand (based on HD footage of the actor’s face as they perform the lines) because it gives them more flexibility. We asked them whether they had considered using the cool facial tech in L.A. Noire, and they had but ruled it out because they couldn’t edit the resulting facial animations — they would literally have to run the full take without any edits. So they prefer doing it their way, but good question!"

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is slated to launch exclusively for the Playstation 3 in US on November 1.
