Ubisoft Locks Assassin's Creed Unity to 900p But What's The Real Reason?

The latest controversial spark that unleashed online for the video game community has to do with the upcoming Assassin's Creed release from Ubisoft. Both long time fans of the series and newcomers are eagerly awaiting the latest release for Assassin's Creed Unity on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Though now it seems that Ubisoft has locked the game to 900p with 30 frames-per-second. Though what's the real reason for this lock? Looks like Ubisoft hasn't made it's mind up completely or we're receiving a few mixed signals.

Assassin's Creed Unity looks great from the trailers to gameplay footage. Though until recently, we suspected to receive a 1080p HD beautiful experience. Video Gamer recently spoke with Ubisoft where news broke that the development studio was locking the game to 900p with 30fps and the reason for the lock was simply because Ubisoft were looking to take the game and lock it with the same specs to "avoid all the debates and stuff."

These debates the Ubisoft spokesman is referring to is what version of the game looks better compared with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Though this "debate" Ubisoft hoped to avoid only added more fuel to the already burning fire. Now we have PlayStation 4 owners who are upset wanting the game to look as good as it possibly can while Xbox One owners are stating that PS4 owners have no right having a better version of the game than what they are able to experience.

But before we dive deeper into that rabbit hole, we should take a look at a comment on Kotaku from yet another Ubisoft representative. The rep from Ubisoft stated that "we did not lower the specs for Assassin's Creed Unity to account for any one system over the other." Instead the real fact of the matter Ubisoft is taking note on now is that the CPU can't hold up for the game.

While the PlayStation 4 may have a better GPU when compared to the Xbox One, the CPU's for both consoles are pretty matched making it somewhat scary knowing that we are already running into component issues within this new console generation. Developers may now have tough decision to make where they can focus on a more graphically impressive video game or sacrificing gameplay because of the CPU.

Ubisoft is making the point that Assassin's Creed Unity AI and NPCs are taking too much power for the CPU. Again, we're not entirely sure if this is the real case or not. This isn't Ubisoft's first time with gamers being upset about lowering graphics to make the game look similar between different platforms. If you can recall back to the launch of Watch Dogs, you might remember that the E3 trailers and gameplay showed off far more impressive graphics than the actual PC release of the game. Though it wasn't very long after the release that gamers were able to locate the code within the game and make modifications to allow gameplay to look like what Ubisoft presented during their E3 showcase.

So whether the news of Assassin's Creed Unity being locked at 900p with 30fps from a result of a bottleneck CPU, Xbox One lack of GPU or one of the several other rumors circulating the internet, one thing is for sure, gamers are not happy. We are very interested in seeing how this affects sales for the game upon launch.
