These devices have become increasingly more complex in recent years, and while a basic keyboard will do the job, any serious gamer must spend at least a decent amount of money on their most used input device.

Mechanical keyboards come in a variety of clickity-clack sounds and each of them will feel different. This guide isn’t about explaining which mechanical keys are best for what scenario, as a lot of it will come down to personal preference. The sound they keyboard makes and the feel of the keys is very subjective, so you may be well served heading to a local store and actually physically trying out the keyboards on your short list. We will, however, attempt to provide a good variety of keyboards for any budget, so read on.

It should come as no surprise that the CORSAIR K95 RGB PLATINUM Mechanical Gaming Keyboard is at the very top of our list. It has everything the aspiring gamer could ask for. The keyboard features a sturdy design, fast Cherry MX keys, doesn’t waste a ton of space on useless buttons, and comes with an optional wrist rest. I personally don’t understand the recent trend that seems to dictate that gaming keyboards must have sharp edges. My wrists still need to be comfortable. Logitech is one of my personal favorite peripheral designers, and the Logitech G910 Orion Spark RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard is the one that I am currently writing this article on. Logitech’s gaming software is quite solid and this particular keyboard features mechanical keys that are not too loud, something I value. The built-in, but removable, wrist rest fits nicely, and there is no shortage of programmable macro keys. It features USB pass-thru as well as optional contoured and textured keycaps for FPS and MOBA games. Dynamic backlighting and media controls are also part of the offering.
