Gears of War 4: Things We Want to See
Gears of War 3 launched in September and is still being played in homes all across the world. Still, that doesn’t stop us from speculating about the next title in the series. Gears of War 4 – what will it be? What should it entail? What do the fans want to see? There are many of these, of course, and not all of the same opinion. Not to mention that there hasn’t been anything stated by Epic as to a Gears of War 4 actually in production. Still, that doesn’t stop us from dreaming.
Storyline may not be the first thing on either the production team or players minds, but the main characters of Gears of War have become like old friends. We love the dialog and interaction between them. After all, we have been with them through three games already. But while we may love these characters it’s time for a little change. Some new characters would be a refreshing change from the same faces as before. Sure we’ll miss them, but a few cameo appearances by Marcus, Dom, Baird and Cole might appease our appetites.
Boss Fights and Gameplay Mechanics
There is a lot of fighting involved with Gears of War games, it’s part of their nature and why we keep coming back for more. However, that doesn’t mean that we necessarily want the same battle rehashed from game to game, especially after three previous titles. It’s time for a little change in this department. A wider variety of bosses would be something nice to see. A wider variety of ways in which to battle and take down a boss would be nice too. Nothing can kill a long gaming session, or even a short one for that matter, than sitting through what feels like a repeat of the same battle over and over again, only this time it isn’t because you’ve found the one impossible boss fight of the game and keep dying, unable to progress to the next level or stage, but just because the game was made that way, one boss feeling like another every time.
The Gears of War titles always look fantastic. They are some of the best examples of video games with high end graphics that are available in the consol gaming world. Gears of War 4 should be nothing less in this respect. Especially in recent months, newly released games have been battling each other for the title of graphics king and the trophy keeps changing hands as soon as various titles release updates. Gears of War 4, should it ever be released, should be part of this grouping of high end graphics masterpieces, vying for a shot at the title of best graphics.
Perhaps it was unintentional, but the creators of Gears of War have created a large group of fans who love the lore and history of Sera. The Pendulum Wars, Civil Wars and internal strife are all large components of the game. It is these that we want explored more deeply in Gears of War 4. A game set during the Pendulum Wars that we have heard so much about yet haven’t ever seen has reached its time. This goes along with the desire for new and different characters. We love the old story so explored in the three previous games released to date, but something new and just a little bit different would be nice too, something that follows the legacy of the Gears of War 1, 2 and 3 while letting us sink our teeth into something completely new and original.
Multiplayer mode is a vital function in many video games released today. It is a standard that people look for and expect, especially in a shooter such as Gears of War. Multiplayer mode was originally introduced in Gears of War 2. Gears of War 3 saw vast improvements on system. However, multiplayer still remains broken, some of the elements, such as weapon choice, leaving certain players with a distinct advantage that leads to unfair gameplay. In Gears of War 4 we would like to see a much more balanced multiplayer system, something that we won’t get frustrated or annoyed with when playing for any length of time. After all, in today’s gaming world a functional, fun multiplayer experience is key for attracting and keeping gamers playing, whether old fans of the franchise or new players experiencing that universe for the first time.
There are certain elements that we would like to see implemented to the Gears of War world at large. This is largely linked to the graphics and multiplayer points previously discussed. Something that many fans of games such as Call of Duty and especially Battlefield will tell you about is the destruction ability. Buildings collapse, things blow up, and general mayhem and chaos is wreaked upon the battlefield. More of this inane destruction is something that Gears of War players would love implemented in the Gears of War franchise.
Gears of War is a fantastic video game franchise that is loved by many. After three games fans know what they like and don’t like, what they want more of and what they could probably live without. While this list isn’t exhaustive by any means and some may disagree slightly on things stated, it is a good glimpse into the world that could be, or perhaps hopefully will be, I should say, Gears of War 4 would look like in the future if and when such a game is ever release. We certainly hope it is and that is it something like what we spoke of here.
