E3 2012: Most Important Things to Expect
E3 is one of the biggest gaming conventions of the year. People from around the world come to be a part of it. The E3 convention of 2012 will be no different, featuring many of the things we have come to expect. Exclusive previews of up and coming video game titles from companies big and small, special appearances by big names in the video gaming world, new video game devices, and much, much more. It is also not open to the general public, first and foremost being an Expo show for people involved in the roots of the video game world. That doesn’t mean that consumers don’t have one eye glued to the events and happenings on the trade show floor though. What can we expect at the E3 2012? Let’s take a look.
The Wii U
The Wii U is the latest addition to the Wii console gaming family. This device is the next generation Wii unit, featuring handheld controls very much unlike that used by the Wii. They were seen at the E3 2011 show. However, that unveiling was rather premature. The remotes, promised to be cord free, were still tethered to the consoles. Some of the consoles themselves were simply empty shells, all the software still being in a dev kit. The true unveiling of the fully finished Wii U system will occur at E3 2012. This is something we’re incredibly excited for. It’s been quite some time since a new console has been released, not including the many handheld consoles that seem to surge and ebb in popularity.
New Xbox console?
There has been much talk in recent weeks of Microsoft possibly launching a new Xbox console. This isn’t too much of a stretch, especially given the circumstances. The Xbox 360, originally unveiled back in 2005, is already six years old, a good age for a video gaming console. Also, there will be more competition with the new Wii U being launched. Whether or not it will deserve it, we can expect a surge in sales for the Wii U and Wii games upon the Wii U’s launch, something that will definitely hurt Xbox 360 sales overall. Will they retaliate with their own next generation unit? So far, many new generation consoles have come out nearly simultaneously with only a year or so separating them in release. Could Xbox be seeing its next generation console unveiling at E3 2012? It’s certainly a high possibility.
Possible PS4 Unveiling?
The rumor mill has been talking about a possible PlayStation 4 being under development. Of course, these are all just rumors, PlayStation itself not really saying anything one way or the other on the issue. We can be sure that a new console will be made at some point in the future, but how close? The PS3 is still running strong, despite the PlayStation Network being down for so long. Is this a reason to get cranking on the next PlayStation console? If that isn’t then the release of the Wii U and a possible new Xbox unit will certainly push them to get to work if they already haven’t. If PlayStation is working on a PS4, chances are high that the concept will be unveiled at E3 where it will get all the hype and attention it needs and deserves.
New Call of Duty and Battlefield Titles
Major titles are frequently announced during E3. What will be released next year? Well, there has already been talk of a Battlefield 4 and a new Call of Duty. If any games will be debuted at E3, it will be these. Both Battlefield and Call of Duty have only just released their latest game in recent weeks so we can be sure than any release of another title won’t be for a while. However, a first trailer at E3 isn’t far-fetched. Of course there can be and most likely will be more video games that will be debuted at E3. After all, it’s a perfect venue.
Other Video Games in 2012
Many other video games of high profile have just been announced as under production. Even more are set to come out during the summer months. Who will have an E3 debut? Grand Theft Auto V has been announced. Hopefully we will be able to play a demo come E3 2012. Other video games set to release some time in the summer months of 2012 include Bioshock: Infinite, Max Payne 3, Halo 4 and Prototype 2. E3 would be the perfect opportunity for games such as these to release extended trailers, open demos, and even full products.
E3 is one of the largest video game conventions and expositions in the world. Many new titles are not only released at or near the date of E3 but many video games are announced with first trailers and demos. Many consoles and handheld gaming devices are also debuted at E3. No matter what is debuted, what companies, production studios and prominent individuals are present, E3 is an exciting opportunity to see the latest goings on in the video gaming world.
