Gears of War was first conceived by development team Epic Games with publisher Microsoft Studio. The series started back in 2006 and has since spanned over four installments with the fifth title in the works by development team Black Tusk Studios (now called as The Coalition). Overall, Gears of War is about the conflict between humanity and species known as the Locust Horde. Played out as a third-person shooter, gamers ate up every title they could play as Marcus Fenix.

In Gears of War during the courtyard of East Barricade Academy you’ll find a statue of the word “hope” where the letter o is in fact a cog. If you shoot the cog long enough it will roll next to the letter P and E.
During the map Rooftops in Gears of War, you’ll find the hammer of dawn with a broken window next to it. Toss a smoke grenade into it and a dead guy will randomly be sitting on the toilet inside.
There are three hidden hats located in Act 1, Chapter 3 of Gears of War 2. Shoot each of the three hidden hats and each member of your party will be wearing a Dizzy cowboy hat.
In Gears of War 2 while playing multiplayer Canals level head left of the Torque Bow and Boomshot. Shoot at the bricks and a hidden face will appear.
During Hive: The Best Laid Plans in Gears of War 2 you’ll soon leave a large room where your squad splits up. Face the outside area where the pillars stand in a circle and shoot at them. A toaster will reveal where you can interact with it.
Star a new game in Gears of War 3 on Insane mode. After you enter the battle of Phoenix estate follow Dom and get as close to him as possible. If you don’t leave him you’ll awake after the cinematic with everyone wearing a Dom beard.
In Act 4-1 of Gears of War 3 get pass both piano and the machine gun trap. Keep left and you’ll find a building with a tree growing in it and graffiti. Look through the window and shoot the helmet which will trigger an explosion that reveals a doorway. Enter it and find a hidden arcade machine you can interact with.
A secret weapon known as Cluckshot can be obtained throughout Act 4 in Gears of War 3 which first shows up if you avoid all the Ash people and pressing X where the chicken wearing a pirate hat is standing. The same weapon can be found in Act 1 as well. During the section that shows a giant, fire breathing golden chicken, Marcus will ask for a lift. Look for a barrier to the right, get over it and you’ll find a Cluckshot next to a dead cog member.
During Gears of War 3 if you play Gridlock and don’t destroy any of the Ash People this will trigger the Gears of War trailer with Donnie Darko’s Mad World song.
Gamers can interact with the slide in the children’s playground in Act 1-3 in Gears of War 3.
Gears of War was originally set to be Unreal Warfare, a game that set in the Unreal Universe. The game was suppose to be a larger multiplayer game but developers felt that the game was too far away from the Unreal Universe thus Gears of War was born.
The entire color palette for Gears of War contains 24,000 shades of gray, 45,000 shades of brown and one shade of blue.
Originally developers made a concept for cog armor that resembled a more futuristic samurai.
Microsoft didn’t want the Lancer rifle to have chainsaws attached to the bottom but Epic Games fought against it which Microsoft eventually gave in.
