How to Unlock all Mutations

In Witcher 3 Blood and Wine, along with new quests, armor, weapons, and area, there is another addition called the Mutation Tree added in the game. This ability is locked from the start so you need to unlock it first and then start using the various skills. This Mutation Guide will show you how to unlock different Mutation skills and what are their requirements.

You need to first find Dr. Moreau's secret Laboratory which is inside the Valley of the Nine. You will be exploring this place in 'Turn and Face the Strange' side quest. This quest is locked until you receive a letter from Yennefer which has the information about the Laboratory. Once you gain access to the Laboratory you have unlocked the Mutation Ability in Witcher 3.

The Mutation Tree is divided into 3 sections - Combat, Alchemy, and Magic. You must invest your skill points and mutagens to research more about them which are available after the 'Turn and Face the Strange' side quest. The Tree looks more like the web and the lower levels are good to unlock and use. You are going to Start the Mutation Tree with Strengthened Synapses and then start improving the other sections.

Note: You can have only One Skill active at a Time

To Upgrade each mutation, you need 2 Skill Points and 2 Greater Green Mutagens. A Blue Mutation will allow you to equip Magic skills in the Slot while the Hybrid(Red and Green) will allow you to use Combat and Alchemy Skills. Strengthened Synapses

  • Unlock Cost: None
  • Allowed Skill: None
  • Work: Unlocks other Ability Slots for Mutations

Magic Sensibilities

  • Unlock Cost: 2 Skill Points and 2 Greater Blue Mutagens
  • Allowed Skill: Sign
  • Work: This ability will trigger critical hits and it is improved with higher signs intensity. Enemies Explode when died with critical signs.

Piercing Gold

  • Unlock Cost: 3 Skill Points and 3 Greater Blue Mutagens
  • Allowed Skill: Sign
  • Work: Aard freezes enemies and they are Knocked down at the same time die.

Conductors of Magic

  • Unlock Cost: 2 Skill Points and 2 Greater Red Mutagens
  • Allowed Skill: Combat and Sign
  • Work: Witcher, Unique, and Magic Sword increase sign damage by 50% of current attack value. 

Bloodbath

  • Unlock Cost: 2 Skill Points and 2 Greater Red Mutagens
  • Allowed Skill: Combat
  • Work: Extra 5% damage per sword attack and increases to 250% which provides instant death.

Deadly Counter

  • Unlock Cost: 2 Skill Points and 2 Greater Red Mutagens
  • Allowed Skill: Combat
  • Work: Swords do 25% more damage to enemies who are immune to Counterattacks. If the enemy has less than 25% health then the counterattack will trigger a finisher.

Adrenaline Rush

  • Unlock Cost: 2 Skill Points and 2 Greater Red Mutagens
  • Allowed Skill: Combat and Sign
  • Work: You get 30% sword and sign damage per enemy faced in first 30 seconds of the combat

Second Life

  • Unlock Cost: N/A
  • Allowed Skill: Combat, Sign, and Alchemy
  • Work: When you are at 0 health you become invulnerable for a short time in order to regenerate your health. This can be triggered once every 3 minutes

Toxic Blood

  • Unlock Cost: 2 Skill Points and 2 Greater Green Mutagens
  • Allowed Skill: Alchemy
  • Work: While Toxicity is 0% enemies get 1.5% additional damage that they deal with you

Euphoria

  • Unlock Cost: 2 Skill Points and 2 Greater Green Mutagens
  • Allowed Skill: Alchemy
  • Work: Provides you 0.75% sword and sign damage for each Toxicity point which stack at Maximum of 75%

Mutated Skin

  • Unlock Cost: 2 Skill Points and 2 Greater Red Mutagens
  • Allowed Skill: Combat and Alchemy
  • Work: When full on Adrenaline Points you receive -15% damage and maximizes at -45% less damage

Cat Eyes

  • Unlock Cost: 2 Skill Points and 2 Greater Red Mutagens
  • Allowed Skill: Combat and Alchemy
  • Work: Get +700% bonus crossbow damage and critical hit chances are increased to 50% which stun and knockdown enemies

Metamorphosis

  • Unlock Cost: N/A
  • Allowed Skill: Combat, Sign, and Alchemy
  • Work: When you are at 0 Vitality you regenerate to 100% health and become invulnerable for a short time. This can be triggered once every 3 minutes cooldown
