Forza Horizon 3 PC Error: Fix For Low FPS, Shuttering, Crash With Error 0x80073CF9 and more
The launch of Forza Horizon 3 on PC is not as smooth as everyone of us expected. According to a report coming out from players (on Reddit and game's official forum), Forza Horizon 3 on PC suffers from shuttering, low FPS, crash on startup and while joining matches, pre-order cars not showing up, and many others. In this Forza Horizon 3 PC Error guide, we have provided a fix for some of the most common/knows issues.
1: Shuttering And Low FPS Issue:
There is a possibility that the fix mention for Forza Horizon 3 Shuttering and Low FPS might not work for all players. We have received multiple reports from players about the below fix doubling FPS and fixing shuttering.
Step 1: Go to Xbox App and then to SETTING and then click on the NETWORK TAB
Step 2: Check to see if you "teredo adress" is broken, you should receive a warning if it is
Step 3: Follow the steps within the app to uninstall and reinstall it.
2: Crash While Preloading or Downloading, Error 0x80073CF9:
PC players are receiving Error 0x80073CF9 when preloading or downloading Forza Horizon 3. It will download a portion and then crash. Follow the steps provided below to fix it:
Step 1: Press WINDOWS and X keys together and then click on Command Prompt (Admin).
Step 2: Click Yes to the User Account Control message that appears.
Step 3: Restart your pc, go back in the store and you should be able to download. Type the below commands to run:
net stop wuauserv
rename c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old
net start wuauserv
If any of the above commands fail, you will need to start your PC in safe mode and run the commands.
3: Error 0x803f8001
This error appears when you are preloading or downloading Forza Horizon 3 on PC. Microsoft should have resolved this issue from their end by now, but if you are one of those who unlucky ones who are still experiencing the issue then here are the details on how to fix it:
- Go to Games > Xbox Live Games > Forza Horizon 3 or Forza Horizon 3 Deluxe/Ultimate Edition > under "In this bundle" click Forza Horizon 3 (not deluxe/anything else) > Download.
4: Error 0x80070005
- Step 1: Open up "Run" either by searching for it or pressing the windows button + R.
- Step 2: Type "%Appdata%"
- Step 3: Go up 1 level until you see the folders "Local", "LocalLow" and "Roaming"
- Step 4: Go Into the "Local" folder
- Step 5: Find the folder called "Packages", right click on it and then click "Properties"
- Step 6: Untick "Read-Only" and proceed to the "Security" tab
- Step 7: Click on "Advanced"
- Step 8: Click "Add"
- Step 9: Click "Select a principle" and type in "COMPUTERNAME\Users\" where i have wrote "COMPUTERNAME" type what is written under "From this location".
- Step 10: Click apply on everything you can and then press OK afterwards.
5: Forza Horizon 3 Not Showing In Windows 10 App Store:
There is a possibility that you might not have an Anniversary Update installed on your PC and hence Forza Horizon 3 is not showing up on Windows 10 store. Follow the instruction on how to Get Windows 10 Anniversary Update or Manually Download it.

6: Forza Horizon 3 Not Showing On Start Menu:
Check the app store, go to "My Library" under your account picture at the top and click on Forza Horizon 3 and click install. Second method is to go into the Xbox App and check under the "My Games" tab.
7: Network Issues or Online Connectivity Issue:
All you need to do is just make sure you have these ports are forwarded in both Windows Firewall and on your router/access point. These are the ports required for Xbox and Windows store games.
