Persona 5 Shadows

How To Trigger Negotiation and Negotiate with Shadows in Persona 5:

If you want to negotiate with Shadow, you need to start to Hold Up. But before you start to Hold Up, you need to knock Shadows down with the critical hit, like physical, fire, electrical, gun attacks and ice etc to weak them down.

All shadows are vulnerable to particular attack, which you need to figure out on your own. If you manage to hit a Shadow to make it weak, you can surround it with your party and after that, you can start the Hold-Up and go for either All-Out Attack or Talk.

You can choose options to negotiate with Shadows by pressing X once you have highlighted the Shadow you want to negotiate with. The options will be like "lend me your power," "give me some money," and "I want an item." You need to select the option of lending me your power. If the Shadow you ask to join you is higher than your level then it will escape. So if you encounter such shadows, you can either ask for money or item.

Once you start talking to Shadow, it will ask you two questions and the Shadow will like you depending on how you well you respond to those questions. You need to choose your responses from three choices and your response should match their personality type. There are four types of personalities you will find like Gloomy, Timid, Irritable and Upbeat.

You can figure the personality type by checking the top left of the screen while Hold Up or you can make out in mid battle. In order to make each shadow personality type to like you, you need to answer according to the options given below

  • Gloomy- likes Vague, dislikes Serious, Funny
  • Irritable – likes Serious, dislikes Vague, Kind
  • Timid – like Kind, dislikes Vague, Funny
  • Upbeat – likes Funny, dislikes Serious, Vague

You can also skip the negotiation and get it for free if you got specific Persona and holding it up, without summoning from your compendium. Apart from keeping the track of likes and dislikes of Shadows personality type, you can also improve your negotiation skills by developing the relationship with Ann and Toranosuke Yoshida.

Ann: You need to increase your relationship with Ann to Rank 2 to get the Girl’s Talk ability, which is the way to get the second chance for failed negotiation. If you manage to increase your Knowledge to 2, you can take her out on a date and then you when reach Rank 5, you will get the Crocodile Tears, this ability makes Ann lower Shadow’s demands and go for the second negotiation. You can also improve your bond with the party members so that you can increase the number of people in your crew, which can be helpful while negotiating with Shadows.

Toranosuke Yoshida: You need to start the Social Link by doing part time job at the Beef Bowl restaurant, you need to work twice there to make Yoshida talk to you at the end of the Shift. Then you can take your relationship further by holding the advertising sign of his political campaign. You will find him on the outside of the Shibuya train station and if you manage to develop the relationship with Toranosuke Yoshida, you will get the ability to recruit Persona without even negotiating and also you can recruit high-level Persona than you along with getting more money and rare items.
