You can enable the Hard Mode from the start of the game through some key sequences. You have to press them accordingly to begin the game. Below are the exact steps.
Enable Hard Mode – Guacamelee! 2
Start the game and stay on the main. Press the below sequence as shared by the developer. The sequence is based on Xbox(DS4) controller.
- Up > Up > Down > Down > Left > Right > Left > Right > X (Square) > Y (Triangle) > Back (Share)
After pressing the following sequence the game mode will set to hard-mode. This means you will be facing stronger enemies.
Guacamelee! 2 Hard Mode Tips
Hard Mode is recommended if you had done playing the game in normal mode. This will help you to understand the game mechanism, the battle style, and controls. In this way, you are more prepared to face stronger enemies. The hard mode is not really long you can finish up the game in around 5 to 6 hours. But if you are ready for challenges then you can go with hard from the start.

You will also have to find a same space to restore your health whenever possible. This will give you a small window to refill your health and you are back in the fight.
