How to Catch Ditto in Pokémon Go

The things you need to consider when capturing a Ditto in Pokémon Go

There are hundreds of unique Pokémon for trainers to find and capture throughout the world of Pokémon Go.

Pokémon like Pidgey and Taillow are common and can be found with ease while creatures such as Charmander and Totodile are harder to find, but not impossible to catch. A particular Pokémon trainers are finding it difficult to capture is Ditto, the Pokémon capable of transforming into others, and stealing their attacks.

Ditto does not appear on the world map in-game because it is always disguising itself as one of many Pokémon out in the wild. This mechanic makes it impossible to tell if the creature you are trying to capture is that Pokémon, or a Ditto in disguise.

The only way to capture a Ditto is to hunt some of Pokémon Go’s most common Pokémon regularly. Hopefully, they transform into Ditto following a successful capture. The Pokémon that Ditto could be disguising itself as are:

  • Bidoof
  • Gulpin
  • Hoothoot
  • Hoppip
  • Ledyba
  • Numel
  • Paras
  • Remoriad
  • Seedot
  • Skitty
  • Spinarak
  • Venonat
  • Weedle
  • Whismur

You want to watch for any of this available Pokémon wandering your area, to see if you can potentially capture a Ditto from them. You won’t know it’s a Ditto until you obtain them, and then when you move to the success screen, you receive an “Oh?” message, and the captured Pokémon turns out to be a Ditto.

You need to keep on your toes to capture a Ditto. Some of the above Pokémon will change, making Ditto even more elusive than it already is for trainers eager to acquire them. If you keep up with the updates and narrow down your search radius, along with using incense, lures, and lucky eggs, you can increase your chances.
