How to Unlock All Alliance Allied Races in WoW: Battle for Azeroth
Allied Races are a new addition to World of Warcraft's Battle for Azeroth expansion. It allows players to create characters from a handful of races they've likely encountered before. Unfortunately, unlike Cataclysm’s addition of the Goblin and Worgen races, there’s technically nothing completely new in Battle for Azeroth. The Allied Races are essentially alternative versions of World of Warcraft’s existing playable races. Still cool, though.
Ignoring the technicalities and lore of each class, when it comes to the Alliance's Allied Race options Lightforged Draenei are super-holy Draenei, Void Elves are shady blood elves for Alliance, Dark Iron Dwarves are basically that, and Kul Tiran humans are humans with more diverse character models and insanely awesome Druid forums.
Allied Races feature their own unique abilities and mounts (usable by all characters once unlocked). They also gain access to exclusive Heritage Armor which are sets of cosmetic armor specific to race. Any armor type can be transmogrified into Heritage Armor, but they only by characters of the set’s specific race. Heritage Armor sets are unlocked only by leveling each Allied Race character from level 20 to 110, without purchasing any boosts (such as the free 110 included with Battle for Azeroth).
Allied Races were touted as one of the major selling points of Battle for Azeroth. Unlike most features added in previous expansions you’ll have to do some significant legwork if you want to create a character of one of the new races. If you skipped out on Legion or just didn’t play all too much, you’ll have to catch up on required reputations and questlines before unlocking each of the Allied Races.
Once you’ve reached player level 110 and have met the reputation and achievement requirements for an Allied Race, you’ll earn access to a questline to unlock that race. Complete the quests and you'll be able to create characters (or race change into) one of the new Allied Races. Here’s everything you need to do to unlock each of the Alliance's Allied Races in Battle for Azeroth:
If regular Draenei weren’t cool enough, Alliance players can now unlock Lightforged Draenei. The background of this race is heavily rooted in Legion’s Argus campaign, and as such requires completing quests for and grinding quite a bit of reputation with the related faction; Army of the Light.
It’s worth noting that by progressing through questlines on Argus, you’ll earn reputation with both Army of Light and Argussian Reach. The latter of these two factions requires Exalted to unlock Void Elves, so you can make progress on unlocking both races at the same time.
How to unlock the Lightforged Draenei Allied Race
Earn the achievement, “You Are Now Prepared”
The achievement, “You Are Now Prepared,” is earned upon completion of the Argus story campaign. In order to get to Argus, you must first reach player level 110 and earn at least Friendly reputation with all Broken Isles factions. This will earn the achievement “Uniting the Isles” in order to unlock Legion World Quests. You’ll likely already have met these reputation requirements simply by questing in Legion zones. Then you’ll be able to complete a quest with the same name from Archmage Khadgar in Dalaran, which will then start a short quest chain leading to the Assault on Broken Shore scenario. Whoo.
Completion of the Assault on Broken Shore will then lead to the start of the Argus campaign. To earn “You Are Not Prepared,” you’ll need to complete the entire Argus campaign, which can be easily done in a few hours as it is no longer time-gated by the mission table.
Reach Exalted with the Army of the Light faction
The Army of the Light faction spotlights the Draenei race’s efforts on the planet Argus. You’ll earn a fair amount of reputation with the Army of the Light just by completing the Argus campaign, generally reaching at least Honored. To earn the needed reputation with this faction, you should partake in the following activities:
- Complete story quests for the Army of the Light
- Complete Argus World Quests (and Emissary, if available) awarding reputation with Army of the Light
- Completing Kirin Tor Emissary when available and selecting the Army of Light reputation reward
- Complete the weekly quests "Fuel of a Doomed World" and "Invasion Onslaught"
- Earn reputation tokens by completing relevant order hall missions (completely luck dependant)
Void Elves are developed through story quests on Argus led by Alleria Windrunner. With Alleria’s guidance, these once-banished elves have turned to harnessing the powers of void magic to help in the Alliance’s battle against the Horde.
As previously mentioned, Void Elves require Exalted reputation with the Argussian Reach faction, so if you stopped playing near the end of Legion, you’ll have quite a bit of catching up to do. You won’t be alone, as most areas of Argus are currently swarmed with Alliance players looking to unlock the race. The enemies aren’t even a challenge at levels above 110.
How to unlock the Void Elves Allied Race
Earn the achievement, “You Are Now Prepared”
Again, you’ll have to have earned the achievement “You Are Now Prepared” in order to unlock Void Elves. Simply follow the same advice above for the Lightforged Draenei to unlock and complete the Argus storyline and you’re halfway there! Well, almost.
Reach Exalted with the Argussian Reach faction
It’s a bit harder to reach Exalted with Argussian Reach than it is the Army of the Light, as you aren’t granted nearly as much reputation by completing Argus’ storyline quests. You’ll still get a good bit of the way through Friendly. You’ll have to prepare for a bit of a grind, as you’re pretty much time-gated by the amount of reputation its possible to earn on any given day. You can earn reputation with the Argussian Reach by doing the following:
- Complete Argus storyline quests
- Complete World Quests (and Emissary, if available) awarding reputation with the Argussian Reach
- Complete the weekly quests "Fuel of a Doomed World," "Invasion Onslaught," and "Void Inoculation"
- Completing Kirin Tor Emissary when available and selecting the Argussian Reach reputation reward
- Earn reputation tokens by completing relevant Class Hall missions (completely luck dependant)
Dark Iron Dwarves
Unlike the previous two races, the Dark Iron dwarves have been a part of World of Warcraft since its very beginning. Veteran players likely recall battling the Dark Iron in Blackrock Mountain, particularly in the Blackrock Depths dungeon.
Since then, there have been Dark Iron dwarves peppered throughout subsequent expansion content, with a clan finally joining up with the Alliance during Cataclysm. Despite their deep roots in Warcraft history, unlocking the Dark Iron dwarf race requires reputation with a new faction added in Battle for Azeroth, the 7th Legion.
How to unlock the Dark Iron Dwarf Allied Race
Earn the achievement, “Ready for War” (Alliance)
To unlock the Dark Iron Dwarves, you’ll need to complete the full Alliance War Campaign. New campaign quests are unlocked by reaching specific 7th Legion reputation benchmarks. When you’ve reached one of these benchmarks, you’ll automatically receive a new War Campaign quest to accept. If for some reason it doesn’t pop up, you can relog or simply visit High Commander Halford Wyrmbane located near your mission table.
Reach Exalted with the 7th Legion faction
The 7th Legion faction is new with Battle for Azeroth, and is the primary faction of the Alliance’s War Campaign, led by High Commander Halford Wyrmbane. You’ll earn most of the reputation needed to reach Exalted through completion of War Campaign quests. Here’s what you’ll need to do to earn reputation with the 7th Legion:
- Complete all available War Campaign quests
- Complete World Quests (and Emissary, if available) awarding reputation with the 7th Legion
- Earn reputation tokens by completing relevant missions at the mission table (completely luck dependant)
Kul Tiran Human
The Kul Tiran people (unsurprisingly, of the Kul Tiras nation) are a well-known group of humans, famed for their navel prowess. Remember Warcraft II? They were the ones with the boats. As Kul Tiras is featured as one of the two continents in Battle for Azeroth, players will certainly become familiar with the Kul Tiran people and their maritime ways. Their addition to World of Warcraft brings some much-needed variety to the human models, finally offering players the means to create characters with more meat on their bones.
How to unlock the Kul Tiran Human Allied Race
Kul Tiran Humans, along with Zandalari Trolls, have been revealed as an upcoming Allied Race, which will become available in future Battle for Azeroth patches. At this time, it is unknown exactly how these races will be unlocked. If currently available Allied Races are any indication, it will likely require earning reputation with Battle for Azeroth factions. As soon as this information is available we will update this guide.
