The Legendary Pokémon, Mewtwo, is finally making an appearance in Pokémon GO and will be available as a Tier 5 Exclusive Raid Boss. Mewtwo unlocked at the Yokohama, Japan Pokémon GO Stadium event. This guide breaks down what Pokémon to use against this dominant Psychic-type Legendary.
Mewtwo is a pure Psychic-type Pokémon ranking in at number one in attack in Pokémon GO. With this being a single type of Pokémon, putting a team together may be a little tricky. The Pokémon types you want to use to face against Mewtwo are Bug, Dark, and Ghost types.
Tyranitar
The Dark and Rock-type Pokémon is going to be the strongest one you want on your team. While a move set of Bite and Stone Edge is good, you’ll want Bite and Crunch to do the most damage against Mewtwo. Tyranitar will be able to observe a lot of damage with it being partially Dark Type.
Houndoom
The Dark and Fire-type Pokémon will be handy with a move set of Snarl and Foul Play. Houndoom may not be an excellent defensive Pokémon but makes up for it with its attack power.
Scizor
The Bug and Steel evolution of Scyther is undoubtedly one of the most potent Bug-type Pokémon to use. A move set of Fury Cutter and X-Scissor will certainly be the best to have. Scizor has excellent defense and an even better attack.
Gyarados
While this Flying and Water Pokémon may be out of its element, it can know Dark-type moves. Similar to Tyranitar, you want a move set of Bite and Crunch to do the most damage.
Umbreon
The Dark-type evolution of Eevee has a high defense and will surely be one to have if you want to stay in the battle for a long time. You want this Pokémon to have a move set of Snarl and Foul Play.
Gengar
For those looking to get into the fight with a decent hitter, Gengar is going to be the optimal choice. The downside is it’s a Poison-type, which is going to get hit by Mewtwo’s attacks harder than your other options. However, if you optimize on its attack of Hex and Shadowball, you should well. You’ll always want to lean on Dark-type choices, such as Sucker Punch. You may want to throw Gengar in closer to the end of the fight, but you should do well otherwise.
