Who is the Stranger in God of War?
God of War is hot off the presses and the story is second to none. So consider this your first warning that if you truly want the answer to the question “Who is the Stranger in God of War?” you will be spoiling it for yourself.
At the end of the opening act, Kratos is attacked by a stranger covered in Nordic tattoos and with an obvious axe to grind. Kratos is just as confused about why he’s being singled out, after all, what has he ever done to anyone?
Who is the Stranger?
The stranger that visits Kratos and tries to kill him, on numerous occasions I might add, is Baldur, a Norse god and son of Odin. Kratos is of course no stranger to fighting gods and Baldur seems to know exactly what Kratos is. None to pleased with Baldur’s attempts at his quiet life, Kratos and his son Atreus must fend off various attacks by Baldur as the story progresses.
Baldur plays the part of the main antagonist and quintessential bad guy in God of War. Having a bone to pick with just about anyone that stands in his way, he doesn’t appreciate Kratos’ attitude about not wanting to die. In fact, the phrase “Die already!” is uttered at least once or twice.
While Kratos’ singular focus is to scattered his wife’s ashes on the highest peak in all the realms, Baldur will show up continually and try to ruin the adventure. What will happen in the end is something I will not spoil for you here. Suffice it to say that Baldur is a god and as such invincible to all threats, including magic.
