In The Division 2, players have the opportunity to obtain various types of blueprints they can use to craft new weapons and gear
The Division 2 features a robust crafting system for players to create their ideal weapon and gear loadouts. There’s plenty of things a player can craft on their own, and if no longer use a weapon or gear, instead of selling it, they can break it down to use at their crafting station. Once players get the hang of crafting, they should never feel like their weapon doesn’t have enough kick or that a piece of gear is holding them back.
The Division 2 Crafting
Where to Start?
Before you can start crafting, you have to finish the first mission you get when you’re inside the Theater and save Eleanor Sawyer’s daughter. After you’ve completed this mission, and you exit the mission’s final cutscene, turn to your left and head on over to a woman named Inaya al-Khaliq. Speak to her briefly, and you’ll now have her unlocked for the White House. Now, you have unlocked crafting.
The White House’s Crafting Station
You do have to wander over to the White House to access the crafting station. It won’t take long find. When you enter the White House, the best starting point to locating the crafting station is to return to the Quartermaster, the person who gave you access to your skills and perks after the game’s first mission. Find him, and the room is to the right of it. You’ll find that al-Kahliq is also next to it, to assist you.
Using the Crafting Station
When you arrive at the crafting station, there’s a lot to take in. Division agents can craft eight different items: weapons, mods/misc, chest armor, masks, backpacks, gloves, kneepads, and holsters.
Your agent’s crafting level corresponds to their base level. So, if a Division agent is crafting level 3, they’re going to be able to craft level 3 items. When you open up the crafting tab for anything you want to make, you’re going to see the numerous possible outcomes of any crafting project. None of the projects are set in stone, meaning there’s a random number generator in the background determining the armor number and what bonus gets attached to the item.
Looting and Finding the Materials
There are multiple crafting materials you need to keep track of in The Division 2. Here’s a list of them all, and the best way to acquire them:
- Ceramics: Looted from high-level enemies, or by looting a Control Point storage room following a takeover
- Electronics: Looted from high-level enemies, or by looting a Control Point storage room following a takeover
- Pistol: Trigger and Mechanism: This item drops more towards the endgame
- Printer Filament: You’re going to acquire this by breaking down other gear
- Protective Fabric: You need to dismantle apparel items to acquire this material
- Receiver Components: You need to dismantle weapon items to acquire this material
- Steel: The True Sons faction enemies drop this item, and you have the chance to acquire this by breaking down weapon items
- Titanium: You’re going to acquire this by taking down Outcast faction enemies; it’s also the most sought after material in the game
- Carbon Fiber: The True Sons faction enemies drop this item, and you have the chance to acquire this by looting a Control Point storage room following a takeover
- Polycarbonate: This is one of the more common items, where you’re going to loot it from lower-level Hyena enemies, and by breaking down weapons and gear
- Providence Defense Grade 3 Fibers: You need to take down near endgame enemies to loot this item
- Richter & Kaiser GmbH Shield: You need to take down near endgame enemies to loot this item
While you need all of these materials to craft an item, the most important piece of loot you’re going to get are blueprints. You can acquire blueprints by completing missions, side-quests, and by completing some of the comendations, which you can find in the Comendations menu.
Once you have a blueprint in your inventory, you can freely craft that item as long as you have the materials available.
