In today’s new Pokemon Sword and Shield trailer, we got our first look at Gigantamaxing, a new feature coming to the game. Gigantamaxing is similar to Dynamax, in that Pokemon grow to an enormous size, but is different in many ways.

The previously discovered phenomenon known as Dynamaxing only occurs in specific locations in the Galar region. While Dynamaxing seems to be a phenomenon common to Pokémon from Galar, there’s a unique phenomenon known as Gigantamaxing. Not only do Gigantamax Pokémon become bigger, but their appearance changes. Like normal Dynamaxing, Gigantamaxing boosts the power of the Pokémon—and it allows each Gigantamax Pokémon to use a unique move known as a G-Max Move. Each G-Max Move is particular to a specific species of Gigantamax Pokémon, and regular Dynamax Pokémon can not use G-Max Moves. Only certain species of Pokémon can Gigantamax—and even among such species, only rare specimens will be able to Gigantamax. The majority of Pokémon will keep their usual appearance when they Dynamax.

Not every Pokemon can use Gigantamax, so the value of Pokemon that can do it will be very high for people who are playing the game.

List of G-Max Moves

Gigantamax variants of Pokemon are the only Pokemon capable of performing G-Max Moves. Regular Pokemon in Dynamax mode do not have access to them. The list provides the name of the G-max moves, the description of what it does, and the Gigantamax Pokemon that can perform the move.

  • G-Max Finale – Does damage and heals all friendly Pokemon – Alcremie
  • G-Max Stonesurge – Does damage and applies sharp rocks to the ground, enemy Pokemon who enter the battle will take damage – Dreadnaw
  • G-Max Wind Rage – Does damage and which removes any effects of moves like Reflect, Light Screen, Spikes, and Electric Terrain that the opponents may have. – Corviknight

As more Gigantamax Pokemon get revealed, we’re going to update the list.
