How to Beat and Capture Cobalion in Pokémon GO
The Generation V Legendary Pokémon Cobalion was recently introduced into Pokémon GO via Raid Battles. Like all five-star Raid Battles, beating and catching Cobalion is difficult. Here are some suggestions for how you might go about doing so.
When you start a Raid Battle with Cobalion as its Raid Boss, you’ll have to defeat it in battle. Given how strong five-star Raid Bosses are, you’ll want to go in with several teammates. It’s recommended that you go in with at least 10 to 15 other trainers by your side. The best number to reach is 20 if you can. You’ll get strength bonuses in battle if you team up with players on your friend list, so take friends with you.
Make sure to only bring in strong ones with CP of 2,000 at the very least. Bringing in a team of Pokémon with CP of 2,500 to 3,000 or higher would be preferable. You’ll also want to take type advantages into consideration. Cobalion is a dual Fighting/Steel-type Pokémon, so it is weak to Fire, Fighting, and Ground moves. On the other hand, it is resistant to Normal, Grass, Ice, Poison, Bug, Rock, Dragon, Dark, and Steel moves.
If you have a Groudon or Ho-Oh, those would be good to bring into battle due to Cobalion’s weakness to Ground and Fire. If you don’t have those Legendaries, some other good choices are Magmortar, Hippowdon, Machamp, and Arcanine, or whatever other strong Fire-, Fighting-, or Ground-types you might have.
After besting Cobalion in battle, your next challenge is to catch it. During this catching phase, you’ll be given a number of Premier Balls based on your performance during the battle. You can only use Premier balls.
You receive these at the end of a battle based on your performance. You can get more by fighting with trainers on your friend's list, trainers on the same team as you, dealing the most damage to Cobalion, and fighting the raid at a gym owned by your team.
Catching Cobalion works like any other Pokémon. You're going to use your finger to throw the ball and attempt to land it in the circle around Cobalion.
Trainers have an incredibly low chance to capture this Pokémon. You're going to want to use Golden Razz Berries on it to improve your chances. Regular Razz Berries work too, but not as well.
Hopefully, if you follow these tips, you’ll eventually be able to catch the Iron Will Pokémon before it gets replaced in five-star Raids by something else. If you fail to capture Cobalion the first time, you'll need to earn a near Raid pass to try again.
