The Best PS4 Keyboard and Mouse Adapters for Fortnite and Beyond
Console gaming has long included FPS games in the mix the same as PC, but there’s always been a bit of a divide, one which has in some ways, hampered crossplay for years. Keyboard and Mouse controls offer more precision and quick reactions than controllers do, with the latter having capped rotation speeds and oversensitivity leading to missed shots, micro-adjustments being far harder.
Aim assist picked up the slack in years past, but even that doesn’t eliminate the issue, and for those looking to up their game, using a keyboard and mouse on consoles (Which a now offer universal USB support) is a tempting option. Unfortunately, even this is imperfect; most games are not being formatted to support keyboard and mouse in their console versions.
This is where adapters came in, removing that gap and allowing for correct keyboard and mouse support. It can be hard to find right adapters, many being cheaply produced peripherals like a lot of third party console add-ons, so here’s a quick list of the best adapters.
If you’re looking for a top of the line performance, this is it. The XIM APEX has the highest performance, least input lag, smoothest translation, and most support (from both community and developer alike) of these kinds of adapters. It also comes in a slim package, which is more than I can say for a lot of these.
Unfortunately, it comes with a hefty price tag, but you get what you pay for with peripherals like this.
PS4 Keyboard and Mouse Adapter, USB Controller Converter for PS4 Pro/ PS4 Slim/ PS3/ Xbox One/ One S/ One X/ Nintendo Switch with LED Lights
YCCTEAM's adapter is a more budget option that works as a pretty good USB splitter on the side. The performance is reliable, but its main drawback is the range (it works only with a hard connection and has a very short cord) and a lack of customization. It only works if your keys are mapped to their default functions, which might be fine for most people who don’t allocate their keys weirdly as I do.
Wamo Keyboard and Mouse Adapter for PS4, Xbox One, PS3 Nintendo Switch Cheap Durable Keyboard Mouse Adapter
Wamo adapter is cumbersome and annoying to use as you need to keep it plugged in the controller all the time, but it provides a lot more customizability than our last model. It's up to you whether the tradeoff in customization is worth the annoyance.
Kmax1 adapter is a bit of a mixed bag but a great low-price option. I’m suspicious of this brand in general not because the products don’t work, but because their longevity typically isn’t very extended. They’re disposable, cranked out with inexpensive parts that work quite well for about a year, then deteriorate. It’s mostly the cables that tend to come apart first, being thin and flimsy.
It is an excellent option if you need one now but can’t afford a better model.
C91 adapter is a robust mid-range model, with a caveat: it seems to have some intermittent quality control issues. It works well for most people, but others experience severe input lag or wonky mouse acceleration issues.
When it works, it’s excellent; one of the best buys, but be aware that sometimes you may get a defective model and need to return it.
