How to Catch Groudon in a Pokémon GO Raid

The very first Gen 3 Legendary Pokémon is now available to battle and catch in Raids. After the introduction of Gen 3 Pokémon, Niantic wasted no time in introducing the first Legendary to catch from Gen 3. You’ll only have until January 15, 2018 to catch this Pokémon.

The first Gen 3 Legendary Pokémon to be introduced in Pokémon GO is the pure Ground type Groudon, but can know Grass and Fire type moves. The Pokémon listed below are going to be the ones you want in your lineup to catch this Legendary.

This Flying and Water type Pokémon will be able to pack a punch no matter what moves Groudon is using. A combination of Waterfall and Hydro Pump will be a lethal one two punch against this Legendary.

Ho-OhTL;DR Games • Fair Use

If you need a Pokémon to stay in the battle and take a lot of damage against any moves that Groudon has, this Fire and Flying type Legendary will be an excellent choice. The combination of moves you want is Extrasensory or Steel Wing with Solar Beam. If you don’t yet have an Ho-Oh in your Pokédex, we’ve got some help on how to catch a Ho-Oh.

If you’re facing a Groudon that doesn’t have Fire Blast as its charged move, this Gen 1 Pokémon will be able to face whatever Groudon dishes out. Razor Leaf or Vine Whip with Solar Beam or Petal Blizzard will do all the damage you need.

The Water type Eevee evolution always seems to have a place in Raid battles. If Groudon doesn’t have Solar Beam as its charged move, the combination of moves you want Vaporeon to have is Water Gun with Aqua Tail or Hydro Pump.

With enough luck and a lot of skill, you’ll be able to add the first Gen 3 Legendary to your lineup and Pokédex. Niantic surely is wasting no time in keeping the Legendary train rolling. Good luck, Trainers!
