Obsidian Entertainment’s action-adventure co-op title Grounded miniaturizes onto PC and Xbox One on July 28, even if its planned launch will be as an early access game.

Despite not being a full release just yet, those intrigued by this “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” inspired title will want to know if cross-platform play will be possible. This feature might not be supported if Grounded is only available in early access so, if you’d like to game with your friends on different platforms, you’ll want to know pre-release.

Thankfully, we’re here to provide you with a definitive answer to this query — and we’re happy to report that Grounded will support crossplay when it arrives later this summer.

During a PAX East live panel in February, Obsidian Entertainment was asked if the cross-platform play would be enabled even though their game would only be in early access. In response, Obsidian revealed that crossplay would be supported “from day one,” which means you can game freely with people on other platforms from July 28.

It makes sense that crossplay functionality would be available. Grounded is an Xbox Game Studios published title, and it’ll be available to try on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, albeit via the Xbox Game Preview program. As Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is available on PC as well as Xbox One, it would have been baffling for Microsoft to make crossplay unavailable for Grounded even at this early stage.

As Grounded is an early access title, there could be issues with crossplay as Obsidian tests out its server capacity. If this happens, don’t fret. Teething problems will occur as they iron out Grounded‘s bugs, so bear this in mind if your crossplay game with your friends does go down.
