The Legendary bird, Articuno, has appeared in the world of Pokémon Go and is available as a Tier 5 Raid Boss. Alongside Lugia, Articuno was unlocked at Pokémon GO Fest in Chicago that was held on August 22. This guide will break down what Pokémon to use against this Ice/Flying Legendary.
With Articuno being both Ice and Flying type, Rock type moves have a double effectiveness and are your best bet. Fire, Electric and Steel types only have a single effectiveness against Ice, but can be just as effective as Rock.
Golem is by far one of the best Pokémon to use if it has both a Fast and Charge Rock type move like Rock Throw and Stone Edge. The only drawback to Golem is that it is a Rock and Ground type, meaning that Ice type moves will be super effective against Ground. Golem does have high HP and Defense, so it will be able to stay in the fight for a long time.
The Fire type evolution of Eevee will have a significant advantage with both Fire type moves. Flareon will be able to heat things up with Ember and Fire Blast. They are a good combination of moves to have.
The Electric type evolution of Eevee will be effective against the Flying type that is Articuno. Volt Switch and Thunderbolt are two great moves that will be able to electrify this Legendary in to submission.
Steelix is a Ground and Steel type Pokémon, so just like Golem, Ice moves will hurt it more, but with a high Defense and HP, it will be able to stay on the field for a long time. The two move sets you want with Steelix are Iron Tail and Heavy Slam. These moves will do the most damage against Articuno.
Arcanine is a great Fire type to have in your lineup as you face Articuno. Not only can Arcanine use a Fire type move, it can also use Wild Charge which is an Electric type move. As long as you have Fire Fang combined with any Fire type move or Wild Charge, you’ll be able to deal a lot of damage.
Just remember that you can have one or more of each of these Pokémon to do battle with. Hopefully, with any luck, you will be able to defeat Articuno and add it to your PokéDex, as it will be a great addition to your team and aid you in Raids and Gym battles.
