The Division features a series of safe houses where you can buy new equipment at specific vendors or just reload your weapons and medikits. Those safe houses are both included in the PvE areas and in the Dark Zone, and you will find once for each Manhattan district. Take a look at the map below, with PvE’s safe houses circled in red for you to fast find them.
The main safe house is the Base of Operations, the Post Office at 34th Street across Madison Square Garden. Others are placed in Hudson Yards, Times Square, Hell’s Kitchen, and more. You should also visit them in order to get new missions and more.
Since you have the entire area at your disposal from the very beginning of the game, you can explore the complete map whenever you want and can, meaning that you can also unlock all of the safe houses around as soon as you manage to do it.
Safe houses are placed in Manhattan’s district requiring you to have a specific PvE level and the game is pretty tough when you try and face enemies with a higher level than yours (it’s basically one shot, one kill).
Let’s take a look at the reasons why you need safe houses to be unlocked:
- Fast Travel to Safe Houses that are unlocked in the PVE area (Excluding the DZ Safe Houses)
- Explore new areas
- Earn XP for exploring new areas
- Update the mission boards and situations that is going on in the area. (JTF Officer and Mission Board)
- Get an achievement from uPlay
First, look at the western side of Manhattan, which is filled with enemies equipped with a lower level than the others. Start from the Base of Operations heading north for Hudson Yards and Chelsea. This is highly recommended in case you didn’t play the beta, so you won’t feel the deja-vu.
