Wolfenstein 2 is filled with collectibles. One of the types is Max’s Toys. Max manages to lose these things in the strangest places, so we put together this guide to help you track them down. There are two ways you can collect these, either as you play through the game or using the Engima Machine to revisit mission areas to find anything you missed. Check out our Enigma Machine guide if you are unsure on how to use it.
Now, things get slightly complicated because depending on if you are on your story playthrough, or using the Enigma Machine, you could be playing through a level in any number of different directions. In our guide we will give you a good landmark within the level, then show you how to get to Max’s Toys from there.
#1 – Manhattan Nuclear Bunker
Around half way through this level you will come to two large, paneled industrial doors. As you stand between them you will be able to see a small door way ahead of you that says “Achtung Ausgang” over it. Only one of the large industrial doors will be sliding open and closed.
Go through this door, then straight ahead under a walkway, then take the next right. Run the whole way down this corridor until you are right under a Nazi flag. Climb up here (if you have no way to climb just use nearby stairs and double back) and once again take a right.
Right beside where the flags hangs down you will see a large pile of boxes and crates. Wiggle your way in behind this pile and you will find Max’s first toy, a little happy looking robot friend.
#2 – Manhattan Harbour
As you venture through this level you will soon come to an abandoned Police Station. Keep on heading down this road, killing any Nazi you come across.
At the end of the street are two large vehicles. You want to go into the last house on the left hand side.
At the top of the second flight of stairs, behind an overturned table, you will find Max’s Toy, this time a ball. It’s not in the screenshot as I had already picked it up but believe me, it will be there.
#3 – Manhattan Subway
The toy in this area comes pretty far into the tunnels. Move all the way down the left hand tunnel until you come out the end of a train. Infront of you will be a break in the roof and a doorway on your right.
Going in this door you will a staircase on your left, while on your right is a door into a large room. Cross the room and go out any door onto the far platform.
In front of you will be a train, go in and move up towards the front of the train. Max’s Toy plane will be lying on the floor there waiting for you.
#4 – Manhattan Ruins
As you move through the Manhattan Ruins you will come to a long, open area with a large yellow machine on a raise platform.
Drop down behind this platform and then take a turn to the left after about twenty feet. There will be a long subway tunnel in front of you. Travel all the way down through the train and you will find Max’s toy lying on the floor of the last carriage.
#5 – Manhattan Penthouse
Once you reach the very top of the Manhattan Penthouse you will see a large staircase in front of you. Head down it and go left, dropping down into an elevator shaft.
In front of you will be a long corridor, walk down this then go left, and continue taking left turns until you come to a large L-shaped desk. There are two desks here, if you are at the one that connects to the wall at both ends you need to stay going. Find the desk with the gap you can walk through and you will find Max’s UFO toy.
#6 – Roswell Downtown District
After using the Enigma Machine to load into the Downtown District of Roswell you will find yourself on a street with some Nazi gentlemen and their friends from the KKK. I would suggest you murder them all. After that, proceed down the street.
The shop on the far side of the street when you come to the right turn will have Max’s Toy in the window. Just break the glass to retrieve the toy.
#7 – Roswell Underground
Make your way through the level until you come to a large platform. There will be a train to one side, and on the wall on the another will be a large spherical device with a glowing red light.
In the booth underneath this device you will find Max’s toy tank.
#8 – Mesquite Farmhouse
This toy is very close to where you load in using the Engima Engine. Walk straight foward until you come to a group of parked vehicles. In front of you will be a large, grey van.
Max’s toy plane will be on a table just behind the van.
#9 – New Orleans Ghetto
If you load into the Ghetto with the Enigma machine, it is important to note, you have to backtrack a long way through this level. You need to go the whole back through the factory, so be careful as there are dangerous enemies in there. If you are coming through it for the first time, the Toy is quite close to the start of the level. Find an open square with torn up streets and lots of broken buses in it. This is the main clue that this particular toy in near.
Beside one of the buses, right at the intersection of some streets, will be a shop. Inside that shop you will find Max’s toy bus.
#10 – New Orleans Wall
Make your way through the Wall until you come to Sektor B. You should find yourself on a walkway with posters on the wall beside you and a large mechanical device in front of you , with lots of crates around.
Head straight down that walkway and then climb the stairs to your left. The top of them take left in the door and proceed to the room at the end of the corridor.
Max’s toy boat will be in the back of that room on a high shelf.
#11 – New Orleans Bienville Street
It’s into the sewers to find Max’s next toy. Drop down the ladder and go through the door in front of you. From there, follow the path, taking the following turns. Go left and down the stairs, then right through the gate. Directly after the gate take a left then the next right. Go left at the end of the junction, then at the end of that corridor turn right and Max’s toy alligator will be waiting for you.
#12 – New Orleans Lakeview
If you are loading in via the Enigma Engine you will need to go back through the sewers, then through the section where you swim down a long tunnel. If you are playing through for the first time and you reach that tunnel then you need to stop and turn around, you are close to the Toy. Just at the tunnel entrance, you will find yourself on the street below.
Run down the street, taking a left at the end of it. Just past a metal barrier that half blocks the street you will find Max’s toy rocket beside a pile of trash.
#13 – Venus Habitat
In the Venus Habitat, find the room where you audition for the Nazi propaganda movie. Right across a large hallway from it, you will find doorway that leads into a smaller common room.
Find “Room 3” in this room and inside you will find Max’s toy car.
#14 – Venus Transporthalle
Max’s next toy can be found on Venus in the Transporthalle District. While moving through this area, you will come to a large room with a single large tank in it.
Behind the tank, under the booth, is a small hole in the wall you can crouch into.
Climb all the way to top of the shaft behind it, then drop down into the control room beneath you. Be careful if you have used the Engima machine to get in this way, there is an Ubercommander in the room and he will quickly kill you if you are not careful. Max’s Toy will be waiting for you on a console in the control room.
#15 – Venus Oberkommando
This is one of the easiest toys to get using the Enigma machine. The second you load in, walk though to door and the toy is behind a crate to your right.
If you are not using the Enigma machine, you will eventually come to a large circular control room filled with enemies. Kill them all, the cross the room and take a corridor that runs to your left. The toy is at the end of that corridor just before a large metal door.
