Developers on DirectX12 benefits for Xbox One: "2X faster GPU performance, most significant jump in technology"
Microsoft is hoping wonders from DirectX12 for Xbox One and recent comment from Stardock's CEO Brad Wardell at Build 2014 Developer Conference on performance boost the tech will offer to Xbox One has generated a lot of buzz among fans, critics and industry veterans.
Brad stated that DirectX12 will acts as a new GPU for Xbox One owners and will be two times as fast as the old one.
"The results are spectacular. Not just in theory but in practice (full disclosure: I am involved with the Star Swarm demo which makes use of this kind of technology.) While each generation of video card struggles to gain substantial performance over the previous generation, here, the same hardware will suddenly see a doubling of performance."
"XBox One is the biggest beneficiary; it effectively gives every Xbox One owner a new GPU that is twice as fast as the old one."
This bold claim from Brad didn't go down too well with the large section of gaming community and so was asked to issue more clarification.
"it's not literally (it's software, not hardware) but yes, dx12 games will likely by more than 2x as fast."
"it didn't. It was/is still basically a single core stack. With DX12 all 8 cores will be able to split the work." clarified Brad.
When other industry professionals and veterans were asked to comment on DirectX12 benefits for Xbox One, the reply that came was very much similar to that of Brad.
AMD's Raja Khodury: "And it's not a small benefit. It's… like getting four generations of hardware ahead with this API."
Intel's VP of Engineering, Eric Mentezer: "This is absolutely, I think, the most significant jump in technology in a long, long time."
Nvidia's VP of Content and Technology, Tony Tamasi: "existing cards will see orders of magnitude improvements from DirectX 12's release, going from hundreds of thousands to millions and maybe tens of millions of system draws in a second."
These words seem to state that controversial resolution-gate problem will be a thing of past and it seems like we have already started to see the effect as both Wolfenstein: The New Order and Murdered: Soul Suspect will run at same resolutions/fps figure one Xbox One/PS4.
