Halo 2 in Halo: The Master Chief Collection Might Not Run at 1080p on Xbox One
343 Industries' Frank O'Connor has finally commented on the rumor that Halo 2 campaign in Halo: The Master Chief Collection won't run at 1080p/60 FPS on Xbox One. O'Connor said: "There's a chance that [Halo 2] Anniversary campaign could run at a different resolution to accommodate the second frame buffer. But the intent is to overcome that hurdle."
Now what does this "Second Frame Buffer" means here, is O'Connor referring to the ability to switch between Halo 2 graphics/visuals from original Xbox to HD Anniversary graphics. Halo 2 is basically running on two graphics engine that too at the same time, so the problem development team at 343i are facing is rendering and storing images for both versions at 1080p simultaneously.
When asked why there's so much confusion regarding what's in Halo: The Master Chief Collection runs at 1080p and what's not? Connor replied:
"There was no simple way to clarify that in our two minutes on stage at E3, and we followed up immediately."
"It’s a VERY complex and large package of tech and content and as you’ve seen, it’s been challenging to message it all accurately and clearly," he continued. This post and dozens of interviews are part of that process."
