Uncharted 4: A Thief's End Quality On PS4 "Really Close To Film Right Now" says Lead Character Artist

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

Naughty Dog is one of the top rated videogame development studio of all time, with each game release they have raised the bar of graphics/visuals (Uncharted 1, 2 and 3, The Last of Us and The Last of Us: Remastered). The studio is currently working on Uncharted 4: A Thief's End for PlayStation 4. So the question that everyone wants an answer for, can Naughty Dog achieve Quality that is seen in big blockbuster Hollywood movies nowadays with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End?

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

According to Naughty Dog's Lead Artist Frank Tzeng, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is "Really Close" to film right now in terms of quality, and it will get closer in a few years time.

Speaking to our friend at CgmasterAcademy, Frank stated:

"Game quality is really close to film right now, look at the stuff we do in Naughty Dog. This character, I'm telling you guys, this character can easily be a digital double in a film. Based on the quality, the detail, the blend shape, the colour, everything that we put on the character [Uncharted's Nathan Drake] this is basically a film character to me. So to me, videos games are getting really close to film quality, and this is exactly what I wanted to do."

In addition to this, Frank explained how the Power of PlayStation 4 allows Naughty Dog for better image to be created and added that within few years time, games will "get there" in terms of matching the quality of big blockbusters Hollywood movies.

"As we have more powerful consoles coming out, so right now we have PS4, it's definitely more powerful than PS3 and that enables to put more polygons, you know, using more high-res maps and get more resolutions in a game, making more expressions making more blend shapes and wrinkle maps. All of this is getting us one step closer to the film quality that we wanted for the game industry and I think in a few years we can definitely get there."

This is definitely a BOLD claim. Gaming Industry has seen a massive growth in very short span of time, previously games used to be a thing of just "two blocks on screen" and nowadays its pretty close to a cinematic experience, and all this has happened in just 25 years.
