Lionhead Assures Xbox One Exclusive Fable Legends Won't Be A Pay-To-Win Game, Support After Launch
Fable Legends, the next chapter in the Lionhead saga, is going to be free-to-play, something Fable fans are not used to. The English developer knows people are not in love with this business model, but in a recent interview they have assured we don't have anything to worry about since the game will be "fair".
According to David Eckelberry, Fable Legends won't be a game for the player who want to "buy his way to victories", as many other free games that let gamers use micro-transactions just to have the best equipment available without any effort.
"That's a reasonable thing to be unsure of. I'm unsure about free-to-play in some games. I believe it's up to the game developer. Some games I love are free-to-play, and I don't think it's a coincidence that first and foremost they are good games, regardless of how they get to market. It's also not a coincidence that these games seem legitimately fair: they don't let a player buy his way to victories, and the things you can purchase seem pretty fairly priced."
Anyway, there's going to be some other stuff, add-ons and equipment after launch, since Lionhead wants to create a "happy" community around the game and not make of Fable Legends a title people won't care about after a few months.
"..we want to support Fable Legends for years to come with content that keeps exploring Albion and introducing more fun elements to the game. That means we will continue to release new Heroes, new creatures, new quests, and other new features for our players to love. And all of these will either be totally free, such as the new quests, or earnable in-game. We couldn't do that if we sold a disk for $60."
Lionhead looks pretty comfortable in the new free-to-play model, what about you? Are you going to trust the first-party Microsoft team on this new free adventure? Let us know in the comments below.
