Dev Confirms Xbox One S Comes With Additional CPU/GPU Power, Helpful In Less Resolution Drops
The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson has revealed to Polygon that Gears of War 4 will be better on Xbox One S, thanks to its GPU and CPU more powerful in comparison with current Xbox One. The difference is not going to be huge: Gears of War 4 has a dynamic resolution targeting 1080p, and this means that resolution adapts to each gameplay situation in order to prevent frame rate dips. It’s the very same technique used in Halo 5: Guardians.
According to Rod Fergusson, on Xbox One S there will be less resolution drops in comparison with currently available Xbox One. Gears of War 4 is pointing at 1080p in single-player as said, but only 900p in multiplayer where frame rate shifts from 30fps to 60fps.
Talking about Project Scorpio, Fergusson said "we have to look at what the engine can do with the power that Scorpio has. Because we're mastering at 4K, it's not about assets or art. It's about getting the milliseconds down in terms of getting the game to 4K at 60 or 30 [fps] depending on single-player or multiplayer."
Gears of War 4 is releasing on October 11 for Xbox One and PC Windows 10.
