Mafia III Reviews An "Odd Anomaly": Take Two CEO

Mafia III Review Controversy and Sales

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has provided his comment about Mafia III sales, which have been really positive for the publisher and Hangar 13 studio owner, and reviews, that according to him represent somehow an "odd anomaly" as those have not been positive at all.

Mafia III Review Controversy and Sales

"In terms of the reviews and scores, it was sort of an odd anomaly," Zelnick explained. "The scores were lower than we would have liked. But there are a lot of stellar reviews. I think the most prominent reviewers really loved it and recognized that what we're doing here, from the story, art, character, and excitement perspective is really unmatched in the marketplace."

"So I think we and our competitors are seeing some anomalies in the review system, but we take them as they are and we don't argue with it."

Mafia III has been highly criticized because of its poor open world mechanics and repetitive gameplay structure, despite being a great representation and dealing with racism themes throughout last century's America. Interestingly, Take-Two has also been pretty open when it came to discussing further remasters after the experimental BioShock: The Collection. "Potentially, yes", Zelnick told the investors during the same call.
