Fortnite Battle Royale - No PS Plus Subscription Needed To Play When It Goes Free

Epic Games has announced via their official website Fortnite's Battle Royale mode is going free to play next week. It will be available for free on September 26 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Fortnite's Battle Royale mode works similar to the Playerunknown's Battlegrounds - the popular PC game - a 100-players battle against each other in one map and the last man standing wins. The news looks pretty good on paper, but many fans are skeptical about some catch being present.

Fortnite Battle Royale - No PS Plus Subscription Needed

Thankfully, Epic Games has clarified in clear words (via a short and sweet FAQ) that there is no catch in Fortnite's Battle Royale mode going free to play starting September 26. No microtransactions will be available in the game that will allow players to have a competitive advantage. The development team already have a plan in place to monetize it by selling few cosmetics or compendium-like content.

How will you be able to get and play Battle Royale for free? According to Epic Games, it will be available as free download on the Epic Games PC launcher, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Store.

One thing that was missed out from the FAQ, and an Epic Game developer confirmed it on Reddit - PlayStation Plus subscription will not be needed to play Fortnite's Battle Royale mode when it goes free. When asked by a user on Reddit: Is ps plus subscription required to play when it goes free? An Epic Game developer replied: "You won't need PS Plus for Battle Royale". We expect the same condition to apply for Xbox - Xbox Live Gold subscription no needed to play Battle Royale mode. Awaiting confirmation from Epic Games.
