Brian Farrell: Microsoft's Kinect will be more successful in near future
The success of Microsoft's Kinect is known to each and everyone of us, but the thing which comes to each and everyone of ours mind, will it continue success its in future also?. Well i'm not the best person to answer this question, but THQ CEO Brian Farrell is, and according to him Microsoft's motion-control system has a very bright future ahead and it will continue to be successful.
Brian explained that Kinect is successful today just because of its ease of user interface:
The great thing about Kinect – and why I think why it’s going to continue to be successful and where we can even get better – is ease of user interface. Voice commands; people who aren’t gamers love walking in on ‘play game’, ‘turn on level’.
He further details that augmented reality represent a biggest opportunity for Kinect to be more successful in future, and THQ's Fantastic Pets is going out to be the very first combination of augmented reality and Kinect. (Fantastic Pets will launch on March 18).
I think we’re just starting to figure out what we can do with it. Augmented reality is a real opportunity on the Kinect as a consumer experience. Between augmented reality, user interface and just new play patterns, we think the Kinect will have a very successful future.
[For developers] it’s more about new ideas and new creative than new tech. Ideas aren’t expensive, tech is. What we love about it is they’re not expensive to develop, it’s just a matter of coming up with the right idea, the right creative.
