Epic Games has announced a cut in the fees for developers who load and sell their assets on Unreal Engine Marketplace, which has been made possible thanks to the success of the marketplace itself and Fortnite.

“Thanks to both the Marketplace’s growth and the success of Fortnite, Epic now conducts a huge volume of digital commerce. The resulting economies of scale enable us to pass the savings along to the Unreal Engine Marketplace community, while also making a healthy profit for Epic,” said Epic founder Tim Sweeney.
As revealed by Sweeney, while in the past revenues on Unreal Engine Markeplace were divided by 70/30 between developers and Epic, with the new regulations in place the split will be 88/12.
Developers have received the news very well and are obviously happy about this move from the makers of the engine and of the massively successful battle royale game.
“Epic has proven time and time again that they do what they can to do right by the sellers on the platform. This is something that many sellers lose sight of, regardless of engine or platform, when working with marketplaces day to day,” Michael Allar of Gamemakin LLC said.
“It is incredibly refreshing and even inspiring when a giant like Epic is able to move forward with such a strong move that will not just help sellers on the Unreal Engine Marketplace but should eventually ripple to all sellers of all game assets around the world.”
Kudos to Epic: this move is something that’ll prove very healthy for the entire video games industry.
