As of June 30, 2018, the amount of subscribers has had a slight reduction going down to 33.9 million. The reduction is very limited, by the way, considering that’s only 300,000 users down in comparison with the previous March 2018 quarter.
To be honest, it’s clear that such a slight difference in numbers doesn’t mean anything in particular, but if we want to find a reason it’s easy to state that’s been because of the slower pace of game releases throughout the first half of the year.
Now that we’re going into the hotter window for multiplayer titles, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Red Dead Redemption 2 and all the others dropping between October and November, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the trend be inverted again.
In terms of software, PS4 also performed rather well, shipping 40.6 million units with a digital download ratio of 43%. Software still represents the biggest part for what matters the Japanese company’s revenue, more than (in this precise order) hardware and network services.
