XCOM 2: War of the Chosen Introduces Competitive Challenge Mode
Anyone in for a challenge? XCOM 2's upcoming expansion pack, War of the Chosen, is launching next week, and Firaxis revealed a new mode that will test its players' skills on the battlefield earlier today.
War of the Chosen's Challenge Mode pits players into a series of scenarios where they control squads normally unavailable in the main campaign. Players choose their units, which include XCOM and alien combatants, and have a limited amount of time to complete the level. Points are awarded for killing enemies, rescuing civilians, achieving the objective, and ending with soldiers uninjured.
After completing a mission, players can compare their score with others' through an online leaderboard, competing for the most points and the fastest completion time. New Challenge Mode missions will be regularly added, and missions appear to expire after a period of time.
Challenge Mode launches along with XCOM 2: War of the Chosen on Aug. 29 for $39.99. The mode can be played straight from the game's main menu.
