After just one month in the wild, Destiny 2 has become 2017's best-selling game, according to industry-tracking firm The NPD Group.
Total sales numbers were not given, but NPD reports that Destiny 2 jumped over Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands, NBA 2K18, and Madden NFL 18 to take 2017's top spot so far. And this is even before the game releases on the PC on Oct. 24.
“With one month of sales, Destiny 2 also becomes the best-selling game of 2017 year to date, and the third best-selling game of the 12-month rolling period ending September 2017, trailing only Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Battlefield 1," NPD analyst Mat Piscatella said.
In total, September 2017 saw a 39 percent increase in revenue from the same month in 2016, up to $1.21 billion over $872 million. Destiny 2 was a big part of that, and it also made Activision the best-selling publisher of the last 12 months.
Although NPD does not track total market spend, due to lack of data from digital sales like Blizzard's Battle.net where Destiny 2 will be available exclusively on PC, this week's launch on a third platform will only help boost these impressive sales numbers.
