Another legendary Pokémon has been introduced to Pokémon Go.

Groudon, a legendary Pokémon from the Hoenn region, was added to Pokémon Go on Dec. 15. Now, trainers from across the globe are searching for legendary gym raids that host this mighty creature.

You'll first need to find a Pokémon gym that is hosting a raid battle. A level five raid battle indicates that the raid boss will be a legendary Pokémon, which can only be Groudon at this time.

Finding a nearby Pokémon gym that is hosting a legendary raid battle is just the first step in this difficult process. The real challenge—battling and catching Groudon—is just getting started.

Battling Groudon

Legendary Pokémon in Pokémon Go are always extremely strong, which is why it's crucial to team-up with fellow trainers to take down Groudon.

A trainer can use up to six Pokémon in Pokémon Go raid battles, so picking the right creatures to give you the best advantage in these fights is incredibly important. Trainers will get roughly two minutes to put together their best lineup of Pokémon before entering the five-minute battle against this legendary beast.

Building a team around the weaknesses of Groudon is essential to defeating this powerful foe, so use your strongest Pokémon that can cripple it as quickly as possible.

As the name suggests, Groudon is a Ground-type Pokémon. But, because Groudon is a single-type Pokémon, that means it doesn't have any double weaknesses. Only Water-type, Grass-type, and Ice-type moves will be super effective against Groudon.

You'll want to keep this in mind when creating your team of Pokémon to counter Groudon. Gyarados and Articuno are extremely effective against this legendary Pokémon, in part because they won't take a lot of damage from Groudon's Ground-type moves. Additionally, try to build your team around Pokémon that know powerful moves that are super effective against Groudon, such as Hydro Pump and Solar Beam.

Some of the strongest Water-type Pokémon you should consider using against Groudon include Gyarados, Vaporeon, Feraligatr, and Starmie. Articuno, Lapras—also a Water-type Pokémon—Cloyster, and Jynx are a few of the best Ice-type Pokémon that can take on Groudon. Grass-type Pokémon, such as Venusaur, Sceptile, Exeggutor, and Victreebel, will also be super effective against Groudon.

But, you can only plan so much for Groudon, as there's a good chance that this beast's charged move will be super effective against even the strongest counters. There's a 33 percent chance that Groudon will know Fire Blast, which will eliminate any of your Ice-type or Grass-type Pokémon in one hit. Groudon also has a 33 percent chance to know Solar Beam, which would decimate any of your Water-type Pokémon.

This just shows the importance of battling Groudon with a large group of trainers, on top of creating your strongest lineup of Pokémon. If, and when, you and your fellow trainers defeat this mighty beast, all you need to do now is try to catch it.

Catching Groudon

Defeating Groudon is difficult, but capturing this creature is much easier said than done. After a raid battle is completed, every trainer who participated earns individual in-game items as rewards for defeating the raid boss. But then the trainers are given a certain number of Pokéballs to attempt to catch a weaker version of the raid boss.

We suggest that you use Golden Razz Berries—which greatly increase your chance to catch any Pokémon—on every throw when attempting to capture Groudon. Even then, it might not be enough.

Use these berries and aim for an excellent throw to give yourself the best possible chance of catching a legendary Pokémon. Once you've flicked your Pokéball at Groudon, you basically need to pray to the Pokémon Go gods for luck. If luck is on your side, you might get to add Groudon to your Pokédex.

Prepare yourself, Pokémon trainers. You only have until 4pm ET on Jan. 15, 2018 to battle and catch Groudon.
