The main feature of the update is the addition of five new named areas on the map, but the additions and quality of life changes don’t stop there. The 2.2 update could be a real game-changer.
The winter theme in the game has come to an end with this patch. That means no more Christmas trees, winter Battle Bus, or lit up bushes. Say goodbye to the snowball launcher, as well. The regular grenade launcher is now back in the loot table.
Epic Games has made a huge change to the back-end of the game to improve performance called level streaming. This type of technology loads the world on-the-fly as you move, “enabling a richer map and improved performance.” There have also been improvements to the frame rate, loading times, reduction of system and GPU memory usage, and more. If all goes well, the game should run even better now than it already does on PC.
A couple of changes are inbound for the Scoped Assault Rifle, as it has been removed from Supply Drops altogether, and the scope has been changed. Epic Games has replaced the old arrow reticle with “a more modern design” to make it easier to tell where you’re aiming.
There are bonuses coming for Battle Pass owners, too, as those who own the Season 2 Battle Pass will get a free five tier head start in Season 3. You can now purchase 10 Battle Pass tiers for the price of six, for a limited time.
Overall, there are a ton of smaller quality-of-life changes that will help enhance the game, like the inclusion of sniper elimination distance numbers in the killfeed. The full patch notes are an exciting read for Fortnite players, who should expect to download the update some time tomorrow, Jan. 18.
