Get a taste of co-op with Metal Gear Survive’s latest trailer

Metal Gear Survive, the only Metal Gear game with a tenuous connection to Hideo Kojima’s original series, is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC in February. Metal Gear Survive, the only Metal Gear game with a tenuous connection to Hideo Kojima’s original series, is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC in February. But you don’t have to wait that long to get your fill of the title’s survival-based gameplay or multiplayer offering, as the official beta is going on right now.

You can check out a good chunk of what Metal Gear Survive has to offer for free now, but if you’re curious about what it’s going to be like to play alongside others instead of against them, you may instead want to check out the newly-released co-op trailer.

You get nearly three minutes of gameplay set, bizarrely, to Sweet’s “Ballroom Blitz” and sped up to better fit the music. Perhaps that music choice was a nod to Kojima somehow, given his love of excellent tracks like Death Stranding’s debut trailer using “I’ll Keep Coming” from Low Roar, or the smorgasbord of ’80s music utilized in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Kojima has professed his love for bands like Ultravox in the past as well, so he clearly has good taste. It just doesn’t totally fit the game’s tone here, though. We can give Konami’s team an A for effort here, at the very least.

Musical cues aside, it’s a decent look at some of the zanier things that can happen while you’re working to secure supplies and deal with the zombie-like creatures shambling around you. There’s a definite comedic side to Metal Gear Survive to appreciate beneath the serious marketing materials out there, and that shines through here. It looks like it’ll be a lot of fun to play with your friends, at the very least.

You can check out the decidedly not Metal Gear survival game when it drops next month, but make sure you don’t miss the beta, which runs through Jan. 21.
