Kingdom Come: Deliverance Executive Producer Admits He Wanted More ‘Polish’

Kingdom Come: Deliverance notoriously launched with plenty of bugs, and its executive producer wanted to iron out some of the game’s issues before release.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is one of 2018’s top sleeper hits, blending a historically accurate medieval setting with realistic role-playing mechanics. But developer Warhorse Studios’ executive producer, Martin Klíma, admits that he wanted the game to receive some more polish before it released.

In an excerpt called “Warhourse Studios Weekly Torch,” Klíma chatted about the game’s production and his role at the studio. While he doesn’t exactly see Kingdom Come: Deliverance as a AAA title competing with the likes of Ubisoft or EA, he certainly wanted the game to serve as an “attempt of bridging” indie gaming and AAA titles.

“It is an indie game at heart–more hardcore, more demanding, more fierce–but with the visuals and production values of AAA game,” Klíma explained in the post. “I freely admit though that I wish we had more time to polish the game before the release, that’s what [a] AAA game deserves.”

Klíma also admitted that Kingdom Come: Deliverance had its problems during development, just as any game goes through. But the title is out there, it’s being well-received, and fans are able to look past the bugs and appreciate the game itself. For that reason alone, Klíma sees the game as a success.

“We–I–certainly did my share of poor decisions and blunders,” Klíma explained in the interview. “We have wasted time and energy on things that we eventually had to abandon. We had to crunch a lot this last year. However, I believe that we did some things right, too.”

“We created an open and friendly environment where everyone can speak up their mind,” Klíma concluded. “And in the end, we managed to cook the pudding, and that’s something, isn’t it?”

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is available now for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
