Far Cry Arcade is Far Cry 5’s integrated custom map editor

It looks like there’s going to be a lot going on in Far Cry 5, especially since Far Cry Arcade will be serving up a full-fledged map editor mode for creative players. It’s the first Far Cry map editor for the series, and it’ll allow you to create solo, co-op, and PvP levels for use within the game. The goal, according to Ubisoft, is to make custom maps just as “accessible” as the campaign is, so they’ll be tied to your character’s progression through the main story mode.

As such, you’ll find arcade machines dotting the landscape of Hope County, as well as posters seen in-game that are meant to take you to some of the featured maps from other players. Far Cry Arcade play will utilize a shared progression system so that the time you spend playing user-created maps is just as valuable to you as campaign play, according to Far Cry Arcade lead game designer Clark Davies.

For instance, you may see arcade machines in bar settings where you could simply jump right into the world and play through a series of the best, curated Far Cry Arcade levels and earn experience points, money, and perks. These items will be tied to the same profile that you can take back and forth between the game modes.

There’s going to be a ton of assets you can use in Far Cry Arcade as well, with over 7,000 objects from games like Far Cry 4, Far Cry Primal, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Assassin’s Creed Unity, and Watch Dogs. The assets appearing in the Far Cry 5 DLC content will be added when the DLC expansions become available as well.

Far Cry Arcade will have modes like Bounty Hunt and Journey, which either has you tracking down a specific enemy and taking them out or simply finding your way to the end. It’s also going to be taking center stage in the PvP multiplayer modes of Far Cry 5, for plenty of new twists on old gameplay ideas. You should have a lot of freedom to create anything your mind desires. With developer support in the form of map curation, contests, livestreams, and map previews, the community will have the chance to interact with the game’s creators in inventive ways.

Far Cry 5 is launching March 27 on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
