Pokémon Go is getting a week long Kanto-themed event from April 11
Niantic is hosting a brand new Pokemon Go event from April 11 to 18 to celebrate the release of the Mythical Pokémon Mew. The Pokémon was added into the game in March alongside a brand new mission mode.
To find Mew, players will need to earn a Gold Kanto Badge achievement in order to progress through Mew's special in-game missions. To get the badge, a player needs to have at least 100 different first generation Pokemon registered in their Pokédex.
To help players achieve this goal, the first 151 Pokémon will spawn in greater numbers during the event. The Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow starter Pokémon Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle have an increased spawn rate over the week.
Snorlax and Aerodactyl, two of the game's rarest Pokemon, will also be added to raids during this time, giving trainers a chance to battle and catch these beasts to add them to their Pokédexs.
Dataminers have also discovered the addition of hundreds of new Shiny Kanto Pokemon that could potentially be part of the event as well. Shiny Pokémon are different colour variations of the standard Pokémon and are nearly impossible to find in the wild.
Fans who played Pokémon Go when it first released in 2016 will be used to seeing just Kanto Pokémon. But for those who joined the game much later, the event offers a glimpse into what Pokémon Go used to be like when only Kanto Pokémon could be caught.
