Radical Heights players stormed Twitter on Tuesday, criticizing Boss Key Productions for pushing off a female player model.
LawBreakers developer Boss Key Productions just launched its ’80s battle royale title Radical Heights on Steam Early Access, but players are upset that the game doesn’t have any female player models yet.
Criticism first popped up shortly after launch yesterday. After opening the game, players are given the option to create their own character, just like in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. But players can only choose to play as a man. Women are off-bounds, with the game teasing that female player characters are “coming soon.”
The news didn’t sit well with players in part because the game already features cosmetics and a full-blown purchasable Founder’s Pack. That means somewhere along the line, Boss Key decided developing a monetization structure in early access was more important than creating a single female model.
“There is so much to unpack here,” games writer Dante Douglas tweeted. “Radical Heights reeeeeeeeeeeally starting with some Choices Made™.”
On the bright side, Boss Key confirmed on Twitter that female player characters are coming and cosmetics will be unisex, so any items grabbed during play can be worn by either gender once women are added into the game.
In the meantime, both PUBG and Fortnite feature female player models despite being in early access, which means Radical Heights has some catching up to do with its competitors.
