Gamers will soon be able to link their Xbox accounts to Discord and vice-versa, showing players when they’re playing games on Xbox One.
Xbox and Discord users will soon be able to link their accounts, letting Xbox One players share their in-game status to their fellow Discord users.
Under a new partnership between the two companies, players who link their Discord account to their Xbox account can now show their Discord friends if they’re playing games like Sea of Thieves on Xbox One. In turn, this means Discord users can keep their in-game status centralized across social media platforms, just in case a friend wants to hop in and play.
Players will also have their Xbox username displayed and linked via Discord so users can connect beyond the service, just as Discord lets Twitch streamers and Battle.net users display their respective usernames through the platform.
Features seem relatively slim for now, but Xbox ended its post by saying the team is “excited about working with Discord and are thrilled to enable new ways for gamers to connect with one another online,” which hints more developments may come from the two teams. But until either team announces more capabilities between the two platforms, that’s just speculation.
In the meantime, Discord unveiled several new features for its service late last year, giving players the ability to hop directly into friends’ games and even set up their own party for titles like Call of Duty: WWII.
It’s clear Discord wants to expand the service beyond simply letting players create their own servers and chat, and expanding into the console community may be the next big step for the company.
